Building on insights from our first economic and social impact report for the Canadian cannabis sector three years after legalization, our latest report assesses the impact of the legal cannabis industry six years after legalization.

Our new report - Six Years of Legalization: The Economic and Social Impact of Canada’s Cannabis Sector - examines the industry’s economic contribution from legalization through 2024, with a focus on both Ontario and the broader Canadian economy. Our report finds that over the six-year period, the industry invested $42.0 billion in capital expenditures, and generated $28.7 billion in sales nationwide, primarily driven by the sales of recreational cannabis products.

In addition to assessing the resulting economic contributions of this activity, our report explores municipal level impacts, by examining industry activity within the City of Mississauga following its decision to permit legal cannabis stores in 2023. We also consider industry level social impacts, including an overview of the participation of equity-deserving groups and Indigenous representation within the sector.

Discover our in-depth analysis and gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape of Canada’s cannabis industry.
