Draft bill aimed at modernising the Belgian VAT chain introduced in the Chamber of Representatives

A significant element of the Belgian “broad tax reform” is the intention to introduce a clear framework for the tax treatment of carried interest and management incentive plans. The proposals, as currently drafted, not only change the taxation regime of investment vehicles but also increase the
taxes for management.

On 7 February 2023, the draft bill aimed at modernising the Belgian VAT chain was introduced in the Chamber of Representatives. In addition to some fundamental changes on VAT compliance and the VAT refund process, the new bill also contains an important proposal to change the VAT procedural rules.

On 6 December 2022, the European Commission adopted the main HorizonEurope work programme for 2023-2024, with a budget of EUR 13.5 billion tosupport researchers and innovators in Europe to pursue breakthroughsolutions for environmental, energy, digital, and geopolitical challenges.

The Belgian tax authorities on 7 October 2021 issued administrative guidelines in the format of frequently asked questions (FAQs) relating to the implementation guidelines for the new annual tax on securities accounts (TSA) introduced as from 26 February 2021.
