Our commitment to social responsibility

Our Responsible Business goal is to enable Deloitte to fulfil our mission to make an impact in our communities, by empowering our people to address big societal challenges.

The Responsible Business team manages programs on behalf of The Deloitte Foundation. Our approach to societal impact is to focus on strategic areas of deep and sustained impact and build meaningful community relationships. This is reflected in our suite of programs and carefully selected family of charities.

Our strategic themes include:

  • Sustainable Development (UN SDGs)
  • Climate Action (WorldClimate)
  • Education & Skills Development (WorldClass)
  • Supporting Indigenous Voices

Key Programs and Initiatives

Each year Deloitte Australia invests $30 million to make a positive impact in our communities. This contribution includes cash donations, pro bono work as well as skilled and general volunteering for not-for-profit organisations.

Giving back to the communities in which we operate is central to Deloitte’s culture and identity. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and our wider Indigenous Strategy are a critical part of that.

We have key sponsorships with The Smith Family (Education), WWF (protects endangered species), SharingStories Foundation (collaborates with First Nations Communities to protect cultural heritage) and LiteHaus (digital learning across Asia Pacific). A further seven not for profit organisations build out our Workplace Giving Program.

Pro bono services are one of the most powerful ways we can make a social impact for our clients, community and planet. Deloitte’s aim is to integrate pro bono work with professional practice and develop a social leadership culture within the firm.

Hundreds of Deloitte Australia teams from Perth to PNG and Hobart to Darwin – plus everywhere in between –showed up in force for Impact Day 2023 to make the ultimate impact that matters in our communities. The year’s special focus on teaming played out to great effect over three days across all Deloitte offices with more than 4,400 people joining 347 separate events for a total of 171 diverse charities.

The Chair of The Deloitte Foundation Rob Collie said feedback showed Deloitte people relished the opportunity to connect with their team members outside of the office, while contributing to our communities as well as having fun. Deloitte’s Chief People and Purpose Officer, Pip Dexter said, “It was amazing to see one third of our workforce were able to make the time to give back during Impact Day.” The 32% firmwide participation was up from 23% on the previous year.

Our workplace giving program enables our people to make financial donations pre-taxed and dollar matched by the firm towards causes they most care about. Our people can join this program for as little as $2 a month.

OYW is a key part of our commitment to fostering social impact. The Deloitte & OYW leadership development program aims to identify and inspire high-potential young talent within Deloitte globally. This year-long experience focuses on honing leadership skills and providing opportunities to contribute to our WorldClass and WorldClimate ambitions. Participants benefit from leadership mentoring, skills development sessions, attendance at a global summit, and involvement in a WorldClass or WorldClimate project.

“The experience was incredibly positive for me. I built a strong network of peers from around the world I’m still talking to. The quality of speakers was second to none – giving a real opportunity to learn what frameworks and lessons are working in what context across climate, education, mental health, peace and resettlement and the food crisis at all levels: from community initiatives to multi-national and federal governments.  In short, I couldn’t recommend it more for anyone wanting to apply for the Montreal 2024 summit.”- Elizabeth de Szoeke, OYW Delegate 2023.

At Deloitte, we are unwavering in our commitment to combating modern slavery and human trafficking in all forms. Our Modern Slavery Statement outlines the comprehensive measures we take to ensure ethical practices throughout our operations and supply chains. By upholding the highest standards of integrity and responsibility, we strive to protect the rights and dignity of all individuals involved in our business activities.

During this dynamic, unpredictable year, Deloitte people worked with business, government and society to help advance toward a more sustainable, equitable and prosperous world.

Increasing geopolitical tension, ongoing war in the Ukraine, intensifying impacts of climate change, and the return of inflation contributed to a more complex and uncertain world.
