Navigating Government Services with EDGE

Learn more about how EDGE works

EDGE uses Google AI to provide constituents a single “front door” to a wide array of information and services. Learn more about the capabilities and benefits below:

EDGE enables users to easily surface and understand organizational data through natural language search and interactions using Vertex AI. EDGE also interprets user intent to deliver relevant results. For example, someone searching for "food stamps" would be directed to the relevant page, regardless of whether they used the exact program terminology (e.g., Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

EDGE uses optional user profiles and Google Cloud's Location and Context APIs to personalize search suggestions based on user preferences and popular search prompts, driving deeper engagement. For instance, a senior citizen visiting the website might see information about Social Security benefits and Medicare, while a small business owner might see information about tax breaks and permits.

EDGE uses APIs to bridge system gaps, which enables constituents to more easily complete forms and populate data or complete actions across systems directly within the same conversational interface. This can help reduce manual data entry and streamlines workflows. For example, a user can book an appointment within the interface instead of being routed to a new page.

EDGE uses Vertex AI to support real-time translation for over 135 languages. This capability makes information more accessible to diverse users without having to manually translate site information. For example, a native German speaker can upload a public health notice in English and translate into another language. The user can ask follow-up questions in German and receive information in their native language.

EDGE doesn’t replace an organization’s website or existing systems or data, it uses APIs to bridge system gaps and seamlessly integrate with current infrastructure. This ensures the integrity of what’s already on file and enables users to populate forms and actions across systems within the same conversational interface. EDGE helps enhance current infrastructure by adding powerful new features without the hassle of a complete overhaul.
