Dare2tri is focused on the fast-growing world of adaptive sport with the mission to enhance the lives of individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments by building confidence, community, health, and wellness through swimming, biking, and running. Deloitte has been a proud sponsor of Dare2tri since its founding in 2011, providing support for all the members of the organization and its Elite Team. Throughout the decade-long relationship, Deloitte has also supported a number of Team USA paratriathlon athletes, including current Team Deloitte athlete Chris Hammer.
Dare2tri provides training and support for athletes of all skill levels, from beginner to elite, by serving youth, adults, and injured service members who have physical disabilities due to amputation, spinal cord injury, stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and those with visual impairments and blindness. By empowering individuals with disabilities to be physically active, engage with their community, and set goals, Dare2tri aims to change lives by boosting individuals’ self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth.
About Dare2tri
A vision to serve as the premier model for paratriathlon programs across the world.
Karen Sternfeld is a recreational Dare2tri athlete. In high school and college, she was a three-season runner. However, in 1993, as a college senior, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Athletics did not return to her life until years later when she discovered a passion for swimming. Around 2015, she joined Dare2tri for weekly training practices to improve her swimming skills and learn how to use a hand bike and racing chair. In 2019, she participated in the Chicago Triathlon, and in 2020 she completed the #ChiTriVirtual race. Karen has a therapy/service dog and lives with her wife in Chicago.
Tom Giannettino is a retired law enforcement officer who served 21 years in the Air Force. He suffered an injury in the line of duty that left his arm impaired. In 2013, he attended his first paratriathlon camp with Dare2tri and has been heavily involved with the organization ever since. He is a former Dare2tri Elite Team member who has competed on the International Triathlon Union circuit. Today, he is a USAT Level 1 Certified Coach. As a coach and mentor, he has worked with a wide range of people, from collegiate athletes to veterans suffering from depression.
Ashley Eisenmenger is a Dare2tri Elite Team Member who resides in Chicago and has competed on the national level for several years. Blind since birth, she was a member of the North Central College Triathlon Team, where she competed as the first NCAA triathlete with a disability that required sport-specific accommodations. Ashley advocates for inclusion of people with disabilities.
