Everyday apprenticeship: One young professional paves his way

Everyday apprenticeship: One young professional paves his way

Stepping into the world of AI at Deloitte involved a major refresh of my views. In college, I was resistant to Generative AI, mostly seeing it as a shortcut rather than a serious tool. When I started my first full-time role here, though, I watched colleagues use AI to work smarter and spend more time on the work they enjoyed most. I knew almost immediately that it was time to embrace AI and learn about it.

I started experimenting with Deloitte’s AI platforms, taking online trainings, talking to others with more experience, and looking for ways to make a real impact on my work. Before long, I was leading presentations on AI for my peers. What surprised me most was how much my curiosity and energy for this space wasn’t just accepted but celebrated.

As part of a marketing rotational program at Deloitte, teams I worked with encouraged me to channel my AI enthusiasm into boosting their operations. I’ve built prompts that slashed newsletter creation time from hours to minutes, ran comparative analyses of AI tools to guide smart adoption, and taught my colleagues where they can use AI to build efficiencies in their roles.

It’s a little crazy to think I’ve only been at Deloitte since graduating in 2024, but I’ve already had the opportunity to collaborate with my teams and contribute to our collective growth as we navigate the fast-evolving world of AI. My skills in this area didn’t develop overnight, and it wasn’t just one or two supportive leaders that helped my passion grow. It’s a whole culture I experienced that thrives on sharing ideas and elevating each other. My managers genuinely want to hear my ideas, they celebrate my wins, and they push me to showcase the work I’m passionate about to help grow my career.

For me, being a mentor in the AI space goes way beyond just sharing technical know-how. I may not be building AI models, but I am learning to use the technologies available and feel like I’m asking the right questions and always thinking creatively about where I might be able to use them next. I have figured out how to make AI work for me, and I love the feeling of passing that excitement on to others. Utilizing AI has allowed me to own more of the creative and strategic process and draw more energy from my day. I’m grateful to be surrounded by people who empower me to keep diving deeper into this new passion.

Honestly, what really keeps me excited is how teams I’ve worked with at Deloitte genuinely want to win together. I work with a group of leaders who are happy to share ideas and see each other succeed. It makes it easy for me to speak up, try new things, and help push the team forward. I’m grateful to be in a place where I can be myself, chase big ideas, and know I’ve got mentors and teammates who have my back. It feels like a rare culture to be a part of, and I’m excited to feel like this is just the beginning for me.

My skills in this area didn’t develop overnight, and it wasn’t just one or two supportive leaders that helped my passion grow. It’s [the] whole culture.
