A reignited passion for sport

At Deloitte, we’re proud to make an impact for our clients and in our communities. When joining Deloitte, I expected to have the opportunity to make an impact on others, but what I didn’t expect was for Deloitte to have a similar impact on me. Somehow, the place I work re-ignited a lifelong love of sports and stoked a fire in me to get back to training in pole vault with the hopes of competing in the LA28 Olympic Games.

It’s safe to say I’m not afraid of hard work it was true in my pole-vaulting career as well. I started out in the sport after competing in track and field – I was just trying to run as little as possible. It took one practice seeing pole vaulters not participating in sprint intervals to make a switch. (Joke was on me, I’d learn quickly how much running was required to compete at the highest levels.)

That decision in high school turned into a college career, where I competed for four years and started racking up injuries. As I graduated and moved into a professional career, I put pole vaulting in the back seat. I focused on growing my career, eventually landing at Deloitte and working on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) client team. Being immersed in the athletic space again got me thinking maybe it’s time to get back to my pole-vaulting roots.

Today, I spend my working hours focused on the IOC, as Deloitte provides the organization with wide-ranging management and business consulting services. In my time away from work, I’m back to training. I’m rehabilitating my injuries and training for my own athletic journey as I set a goal to train and qualify for the Olympic Trials, which will happen late spring, before the Games in 2028. Setting that lofty goal while working at Deloitte, a fast-paced, impact-driven organization, has felt like a benefit for me.

When I’m working, I focus on helping my clients solve problems and providing value in my role. Then when I log off and go to train, I turn that part of my brain off entirely. I become the athlete, not the consultant and I feel like having something to focus on where I get to turn my work brain off really makes a difference for my mental well-being and my productivity at work. I’m grateful that my work and the impact I make with the IOC has helped to reinvigorate my personal passion in my sport.

The place I work re-ignited a lifelong love of sports and stoked a fire in me to get back to training in pole vault with the hopes of competing in the LA28 Olympic Games.

There’s more to Team USA and the Games than sport itself

Advance and perform: It applies as much to athletes as business itself. What makes a successful athlete or sports organization often goes beyond performance on the field of play and transcends the game they are known for. As a trusted advisor of LA28 and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), Deloitte is helping these organizations so they can advance and perform. As a proud sponsor of Team USA, we celebrate that there’s so much more to winning than just on-field performance.
