I did not have a set career path until I joined Deloitte. After working numerous jobs and never feeling like I was in exactly the right place, I took a year off to travel. In the process, I realized my curiosity and appreciation for technology. I could see that no matter where I was, at home or abroad, technology surrounds so much of our lives. It was an insightful moment, and I then knew I wanted to pursue a career in technology.
Two years ago, I joined Deloitte and started my journey in the technology space. I never imagined learning skills like JavaScript, Docker, Kubernetes, Python, Artificial Intelligence, and Neo4j. I appreciated the exposure to Frontend, Backend, and Deployment work, as well as the growth opportunities and collaboration along the way.
Working in group settings and receiving real time feedback was beneficial because it gave me opportunities to improve quickly. Mentors and colleagues shared insights and recommendations to foster my growth. When it was time to participate in a final team project, I was ready to put my skills to work. I was confident I could use my initial passion in Frontend for a dashboard that needed to be updated. Seeing my work come to life on the site was truly rewarding.
At Deloitte I have been given opportunities to advance my career growth, including earning Deloitte Certified badges in Machine Learning and Data Engineering. These badges have made a huge impact, as leaders around the organization can see my potential and pull me onto projects where my skills are a good fit. With this skillset in hand, I plan to apply my knowledge of Python, Artificial Intelligence, and the other software skills within my day-to-day responsibilities with the Smart Factory in Wichita, where I help factories to operate more efficiently. With training and support from Deloitte, I’m excited about the future and the path in front of me – and I plan to pay it forward throughout my own journey.
