Hard work pays off, at work and on the track

It’s 5 a.m. Most of Chicago is still sleeping. But not me. I’m lacing up my running shoes for an early morning workout. I’m training for my ninth marathon, and while marathon running is an individual sport, my team plays a big part in my success.

A part of that support team are my Deloitte colleagues. In my role, I help to advance strategic talent and operations initiatives for Deloitte’s marketing and communications organization. For some, a busy job would mean putting some hobbies that require 10+ hours of time each week to the side. But marathon training isn’t just a hobby for me, it’s part of my physical and mental well-being, too. The drive that helps propel me through each race is the same drive that pushes me to do my best work each day at Deloitte.

When a 5 a.m. run isn’t in the cards, I’m grateful to work on a team that can often be flexible and I can adjust my schedule and may be able to still get my training in mid-morning or in the afternoon. I’m happy to return the favor so my team members get that same opportunity, whether it’s getting into a yoga class or stepping out to get in a gym session over lunch. The well-being support at Deloitte goes beyond flexible work schedules. I’m able to use my annual well-being subsidy to cover some of the costs of my running club, charitable race entrance fees and even new running shoes throughout the year

I appreciate how I’m able to balance my personal passion and my career, while making a unique impact, due in part to Deloitte’s support.

The well-being support at Deloitte goes beyond flexible work schedules.
