Widespread and rapid technological development has seen explosive growth in the deployment of Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Systems in markets across the EU bloc. Where policy and regulation have until now been fragmented, the European Commission unveiled in April 2021 a proposal for an EU-wide regulatory framework specifically addressing AI use within EU markets.
What can be considered as the leading attempt to enact a horizontal regulation of AI, the proposed EU AI Act is to apply to all providers, distributors and users of AI-driven products, services and systems that affect persons located in the EU. If enacted, the proposed legal framework will apply to firms irrespective of whether they are established in the EU or in a third country.
In response to the newly proposed regulation of AI in the EU, the Deloitte Global Algorithm Assurance team held a dedicated webinar that considered the key focus areas of the draft EU AI Act and the potential requirements for firms should the legislation be enacted. If you were unable to join us on the day and would like access to the recording, or if you would like a copy of the slides presented during the presentation, please get in touch and we’d be happy to start a conversation on your AI systems, the Act and what this could mean for your organisation.
