Commenting on today’s ONS inflation figures, Debapratim De, director of economic research at Deloitte, said:
“Headline inflation has surprised on the upside but January’s rise is partly down to earlier reductions in prices falling out of the year-on-year calculations. Inflation remains in line with the Bank of England’s latest projections.
“Today’s figures do not seem to reflect a significant rise in underlying price pressure. But the strong wage growth estimates in recent labour market data do not suggest much of an easing either.”
