Summary of Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora Health Workforce Plan 2023/24

The Deloitte New Zealand State of the State series explores the role of the state in some of the biggest issues faced by Aotearoa. The Deloitte health team have created a two part summary – one providing context to how the strategies align to the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act and Te Pae Tata while the second page summaries the six strategies.

Bowel cancer is the most commonly reported cancer in in New Zealand. Every year, around 3,000 people are diagnosed with the disease and there are approximately 1,200 deaths from the disease. Early detection is key to survival. To help tackle this, the National Screening Unit (NSU) within Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand engaged Deloitte in 2019 to design and build an application to support the roll out of a nationwide bowel screening programme.
