As governments grapple with a mixture of old and new challenges to modernising transport systems, explore the five emerging trends shaping the mobility industry as it enters the next era of exponential growth.

Technology will be pivotal in modernising our transport systems, improving their efficacy and effectiveness. However, the use of data requires new governance structures relating to data-sharing and privacy. Transport ecosystems will also have to build their resilience to cyber and climate related risks whilst providing equitable and inclusive services for all. 

Global Transportation Trends 2022 explores five trends addressing the myriad of challenges facing the transport industry today:

  1. Creating sustainable funding mechanisms for transport: Develop, test and scale sustainable alternatives to fuel taxes, encouraging government agency transparency to build public trust.
  2. Electric Vehicles (EV) in a generational shift in mobility: Build solutions to the charging infrastructure problem and address the potential talent shortage in the EV industry.
  3. Modernising transport systems in an inclusive, equitable way: Adopt an equity-centred approach to invest and design transport systems, including underserved and marginalised communities in project planning processes.
  4. Making transport networks more resilient: Bolster transport system’s resilience to cyber and climate-related threats.  
  5. Turbocharging digital and technological innovation: Forge better systems to scale digital innovations with the transport industry.

Supporting leaders to ensure their organisational policies are fit for purpose and that service and corporate processes are designed right and work well in a content of change and complexity is my key interest and focus.

My focus areas are operating model change, transformation of social services and human centred design. I help organisations transform their business through changes to people, process and technology – and to do this in a way that is collaborative, innovative and truly customer-centric. My passion is for bringing together individuals and organisations to address ‘wicked problems’ at multiple levels: changing systems to transform outcomes, redesigning services to be simpler and generate better outcomes, and shifting mind sets to focus on growth, innovation and impact. My work has included leading large scale organisation change with my clients, including redesign of social housing services, welfare payment services, accident compensation services and child care and protection services – through the stages of the design, prototype and implementation.
