Hi, my name is Sophia, and I'm currently working as part of the Employer Brand team as I complete my student placement. Last year, I graduated from the University of Galway with a degree in Commerce, and I am currently on my 9-month student placement at Deloitte as I pursue my Master's in Marketing Practice at the University of Galway. Since starting my placement in September, I’ve been on an incredible journey, one filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities. From day one, I sensed that this experience would be transformative, and seven months in, I can confidently say it’s exceeded all my expectations so far.
Before joining the Employer Brand team, I never imagined there would be placement opportunities like this here at Deloitte, beyond the traditional paths of Consulting, Auditing, and Professional Services. Finding a role that directly aligns with my passions and expertise in this dynamic and collaborative environment has been incredibly rewarding. Based in the Dublin office, my role offers the chance to work on a variety of exciting projects alongside diverse teams. As part of the Employer Brand team, our core responsibilities include managing Deloitte's social media channels, capturing compelling content from both in-office and external events, and creating eye-catching social media campaigns, all while embedding our employee value proposition here at Deloitte. Every day brings something new in the Employer Brand team, and I truly thrive in the fast-paced, ever evolving atmosphere here at Deloitte.
Since joining Deloitte in September, several career highlights have stood out for me. I have had the privilege of hosting multiple fireside chats featuring Partners, Deloitte Associates, Olympian and Deloitte Brand Ambassador Zoe Hyde. Additionally, I have led content coverage at various high-profile events for Deloitte’s social media channels, including the Annual I Wish Showcase at the RDS and the UCD Innovation Academy. I have also delivered Personal Branding sessions to the ASPIRE Programme and the 180 DAYS to Make a Difference Programme, helping participants enhance their professional presence. Another significant highlight has been contributing to the creation of engaging social media campaigns and award submissions. These opportunities have fostered both my professional development and personal growth.
Balancing my full-time job at Deloitte alongside my college work for my Master's requires good time management skills, which I think I've nailed! Managing these two commitments has enhanced my ability to prioritise tasks and break down complex projects into clear steps to ensure I meet all my deadlines. Having such a supportive team that consistently offers guidance and encouragement has been instrumental to my success, both academically and professionally. Many of my college assignments draw directly on the insights and experiences I've gained at Deloitte, allowing me to apply what I learn in real time. This synergy not only helps me perform at my best but also ensures I’m continually growing and learning through my work.
At Deloitte, every team member is encouraged to dedicate eight hours annually to volunteering, creating meaningful impact while growing and collaborating together. I was grateful to volunteer at the Annual I Wish 2026 Showcase at the RDS, where over 4,000 girls attended. Helping at the stand, engaging with TY students, and capturing live event coverage made it a rewarding experience. Alongside 90 colleagues, I was proud to be part of this inspiring initiative and connect with the next generation of talent. During my Co-op Leadership Boost Impact Day, I also volunteered with Junior Achievement Ireland, delivering interactive workshops to primary school students. It was rewarding to work alongside fellow Co-ops from different Deloitte regions, helping students link classroom learning with the world of work.
Looking back on my time at Deloitte, it’s amazing to see how much I’ve grown. If I could share one piece of advice, it would be: don’t be afraid to ask questions! This doesn't indicate a lack of knowledge but rather highlights curiosity and an eagerness to learn. I know for certain that some questions I’ve asked, although may seem obvious, helped ensure I was completing my tasks correctly and to the best quality! Also, make an effort to connect beyond your immediate team, getting to know people on your office floor builds valuable connections and helps you feel more settled. Another tip? Say yes to every opportunity! Taking on new challenges boosts confidence and makes a real impact. Lastly, keep a journal or notes of your achievements, it’s a great way to reflect on your progress and celebrate all the great things you’ve accomplished during your Co-Op.
As I look ahead to the coming months, I am motivated to complete my MSc in Marketing Practice at the University of Galway to the best of my ability. I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to develop and enhance my skills and expertise at Deloitte as part of the Employer Brand team. Every opportunity, task, and challenge I have embraced has ultimately helped make an impact that truly matters.
