Beyond Graduation: Life as a Technology & Transformation Analyst

Life as a Technology & Transformation Analyst

Ava Dineen’s journey to Deloitte’s Graduate Programme: From University to Consulting Analyst

I graduated from University College Cork with a degree in Commerce International with French. My journey with Deloitte began during my final year at UCC when I was honoured to be part of the Dean’s scholar list programme sponsored by Deloitte. Through mentorship sessions, workshops and visits to the Cork office, I was introduced to the firm’s inclusive culture and collaborative spirit. From the very first interaction, I knew Deloitte was a place where I could grow both personally and professionally.

Starting My Career

Since joining Deloitte as a Business Analyst, I have had the opportunity to dive into client work from day one. Consulting is fast paced and dynamic, and no two days are the same. I have worked on projects that involve research, analysis and client collaboration to solve complex business challenges. These experiences have helped me build key skills in communication, problem solving and project management.

One of the highlights of my early days was the two week graduate induction at Killashee Hotel. It was an immersive introduction to Deloitte’s culture and ways of working. From case studies and workshops to wellness sessions and personal branding tips, the programme helped me build confidence and lasting connections with my graduate cohort.

Living Deloitte’s Values Through Volunteering

A core part of Deloitte’s culture that resonates with me is its commitment to social impact. In my first few months, I have taken part in several volunteering initiatives that have allowed me to give back while developing new skills.

During Impact Week, I worked with the Early Learning Initiative to support early childhood education. Collaborating with colleagues to develop new programme ideas was incredibly rewarding. I also participated in the Focus Ireland Sleepout, raising awareness and funds to combat homelessness. Spending the night outdoors alongside colleagues was a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by many in our communities.

Other memorable moments include supporting candidates at the Graduate Pre Interview Event, helping host the Future Leaders Academy Family Festive Party and serving as a Social Media Champion to raise awareness through digital channels.

Learning and Development

Deloitte’s commitment to continuous learning is one of the things I value most. I have completed the How to Be a Good Facilitator course and passed the Salesforce Foundation Exam, which expanded my understanding of key technology platforms. Beyond formal training, day to day client work has been a rich learning experience. With support from my coach, buddy and wider team, I have been encouraged to take ownership of my development and grow with confidence.

Leadership and Connection

One of the most exciting moments of my journey so far was speaking at the Graduate Leadership event in front of 280 new graduates. I had the privilege of interviewing a Deloitte alumni entrepreneur during a fireside chat, an experience that was both nerve wracking and exhilarating. It gave me the chance to engage with the wider graduate community and showcase Deloitte’s focus on leadership and innovation.

Outside of work, I have embraced Deloitte’s vibrant social culture. I am an active member of the tag rugby team, which has been a fantastic way to stay fit, build friendships and connect with colleagues across different teams. These social and sporting opportunities have helped me strike a healthy work life balance and made my experience even more enjoyable.

Advice for Future Graduates

If you are considering Deloitte’s Graduate Programme, my advice is simple. Be curious and proactive. Take every opportunity to learn through client work, training and volunteering. Step outside your comfort zone because some of the most rewarding experiences come from unexpected challenges.

Build relationships. The friendships and networks you develop will support you throughout your career. Most importantly, be yourself. Deloitte values authenticity and teamwork, so show your enthusiasm and your willingness to grow.

Looking Ahead

The Deloitte Graduate Programme has given me an incredible platform to launch my career. The combination of challenging client work, supportive colleagues and a culture that values learning and social impact makes Deloitte a truly special place to work. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing my journey.
