Richard McDaid is a Director in the Indirect Tax Department with over 30 years’ experience of advising on VAT – starting with his role as a VAT Inspector in the then HMCE, then moving to practice in the UK before relocating to Ireland in late 1995.
Richard is the Team Leader in the Financial Services Practice covering a range of clients within the banking, insurance and investment fund sectors, as well as those in the aircraft financing market. He advises on the impact of both Irish and foreign VAT on transactions, together with reviewing contracts and structures to identify potential VAT pitfalls as well as the opportunities to minimise VAT costs and maximise VAT recoveries. Since June 2016 and for the foreseeable future Richard is the point of contact for all Brexit-related FS issues and has been advising UK clients on the domestic and cross-border VAT issues associated with starting a business in or relocating a business to Ireland.
Richard also oversees Deloitte’s growing financial services VAT compliance section which assists with the preparation of VAT and related returns for approx. 150 funds, fund managers, and securitisation vehicles.
