Meet our people
Could you tell us a bit about yourself, and your time at Deloitte so far? How did you end up in your current role?
I joined the Deloitte Risk Advisory department as part of the Graduate Programme in 2017, under the Technology Assurance (TA) team. My University degree in Mathematics was completely unrelated to the field I joined, but the training I received made the transition seamless. I was lucky enough to also work with the Computer Systems Validation (CSV) team throughout my training contract, and now I am a Senior Consultant back on the TA team!
Is there a part of your role you particularly enjoy, or parts of your role you’ve found unexpectedly challenging?
My favourite thing about my role is the variety; no two weeks are the same. My workload includes a mix of both long and short term engagements, some of these ad-hoc and some recurring each year, but they always present a new challenge and help keep things interesting.
What’s unique about the role or team you’re in?
As IT specialists, our team gets lots of opportunities to collaborate with other teams in Deloitte. We work with our Audit colleagues on statutory audits, conduct IT reviews with our Internal Audit colleagues, and even work on GDPR reviews with our Data Privacy team.
What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on?
I’ve had the opportunity to work on such a wide range of reviews with a variety of clients, which are all interesting in different ways. It’s impossible to pick just one!
What are the main skills you’ve been able to develop in this role so far, and what do you want to focus on next?
Too many to count – I have developed invaluable skills in communication, report writing, auditing, and leadership, not to mention the learning opportunities available to the team. We also have a breadth of opportunities to develop our professional qualifications; I am CISA certified, and obtained qualifications as an AWS Cloud Practitioner and ISO 27001 Lead Implementor Auditor this year.
