Decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries

A Deloitte and Shell perspective

The 2015 Paris Agreement set an ambition to limit global warming to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. This has made decarbonization a global imperative and a priority for governments, companies and society at large which, in turn, are making commitments and increasing efforts to close the gap to net-zero emissions. To realize this ambition, an path forward to achieve significant emissions reduction must be made in hard-to-abate sectors—which requires a concerted global effort.

Deloitte, in collaboration with Shell, has developed a series of reports exploring the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors, such as, aviation, construction, road freight, steel, etc. The findings in these reports are from the interviews Deloitte and Shell conducted with several industry leaders and executives across multiple countries identifies potential solutions to accelerate the industries’ transition towards net-zero.

  • Connected for a new energy future

Energy is the pulse of our day-to-day life and how we create and use it is evolving rapidly. At Deloitte, we understand the opportunities the Future of Energy brings and the importance of connecting ecosystem players, innovators, regulators and thought leaders to create a new energy world that is sustainable and abundant. In collaboration with Shell and working closely with many leaders of the construction industry, Deloitte explores the promise of decarbonizing the industry. We truly believe that as ecosystem players connect and adopt the right mind-set, the positive impact we make can be accelerated.
