Paris, France, 09 August 2024 — The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Deloitte today announced an expansion of their Worldwide Olympic Partnership. For the Olympic Winter Games Milano-Cortina 2026 through to the Olympic Games Brisbane 2032, Deloitte will take on the role of Games Technology Integration Partner for the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, and the Youth Olympic Games.
Deloitte will help advance the IOC’s vision of establishing a new integrated technology infrastructure and Games Platform to enhance and secure the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ technology operations for the future.
John Skowron, Deloitte Vice Chairman – Olympic and Paralympic Games, stated: “This is an exciting moment for Deloitte as we build on the incredible work we have already begun with the IOC around digital transformation, knowledge management infrastructure, as well as programs supporting athletes and sustainability initiatives. In 2022, we kicked off our ‘partnership with purpose’ with the goal of utilizing Deloitte’s capabilities to advance our shared ambition of enabling a better world through sport. The expansion of our partnership is a tremendous opportunity for Deloitte to share our vast global management consulting experience and technology capabilities to help transform the Games Technology infrastructure.”
Ilario Corna, IOC’s Chief Information and Technology Officer, stated: “We are thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Deloitte through this expanded partnership. The Olympic Games have always been a beacon of innovation and excellence, striving to set new standards in every aspect of sport. Our commitment to being at the forefront of technological advancement is unwavering, and with Deloitte as our Games Technology Integration Partner, we are poised to reach new heights. Ensuring the robustness, efficiency, and sustainability of our IT infrastructure is essential for the seamless execution of the Olympic Games. This foundation not only guarantees operational excellence but also plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of our athletes and delivering an unforgettable experience to a global audience. Our technology strategy is driven by the desire to push boundaries and inspire the world through the power of sport. Since 2022, Deloitte has been instrumental in our digital transformation journey. Their expertise and innovative approach have helped us navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology with confidence and agility. This new chapter in our partnership marks a significant milestone, as we continue to embrace cutting-edge solutions that will redefine the Olympic experience. Together with Deloitte, we are excited to explore new possibilities and drive forward the future of technology in sports. Our shared vision of excellence and innovation will ensure that the Olympic Games remain a symbol of human potential and achievement. We look forward to continuing this journey, setting new benchmarks, and inspiring future generations through our commitment to technological advancement and excellence in the world of sport."
In April 2022, the IOC and Deloitte announced a decade-long, five-Games TOP partnership through 2032 to fundamentally transform the way future Olympic & Paralympic Games are experienced by fans and the way the Games are delivered to the world.
Deloitte was selected as the Games Technology Integration Partner for Milano-Cortina 2026 onwards following a competitive tender process undertaken by the IOC. In this expanded role, Deloitte will design, build, implement, operate, and secure the technology integration, application development, and cybersecurity services from 2026 to 2032. Deloitte will lead the technological transformation of the Olympic Games and continue to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Olympic Games operations. Deloitte will also support the IOC in the implementation of the Olympic Agenda 2020 recommendations related to optimizing delivery of the Olympic Games by developing technology that can be customized for each Olympic and Paralympic Games. This customization will help reduce the need to recreate applications for each Olympic Games edition and embed continuous knowledge sharing and improvements going forward.
Modernizing the Olympic Movement
As a Worldwide Olympic Partner, Deloitte is already applying its deep experience in management and business consulting to enhance and secure the IOC’s digital ecosystem supporting the Olympic Movement.
Our “partnership with purpose” is also having a distinct impact, in its first two years, across transformation, talent, and purpose. Deloitte designed, implemented, and is now operating digital transformation capabilities of Converge™ by Deloitte for Sports, which powers the Olympic Fan Data platform. This platform enables the IOC to better engage millions of fans around the world. Deloitte also launched the Insights & Knowledge Learning Program to over 2,000 users across four Organizing Committees, to support the continuation of knowledge across Games editions. Deloitte is also working across the Olympic Movement to enhance athlete employability and accelerate sustainability initiatives.
Deloitte is partnering with the IOC to bring its vast digital consulting experience to help facilitate the development of the Olympic AI Agenda. This will help guide the IOC and the Olympic Movement into a future where AI enhances many facets of human potential and democratizes sports and makes it easier to access information. The Sports Innovation Hub by Deloitte, located in Madrid Spain, is central to this effort, bringing together a wide range of capabilities to support cities and organizations with state-of-the art technology solutions to enhance and protect sport’s biggest moments.
John Tweardy, Consulting Principal, Olympic & Paralympic Games & Major Events, Deloitte Switzerland, stated, “This is an incredible opportunity for Deloitte to bring together the depth and breadth of our entire organization to support the transformation and modernization of the platforms that will drive forward the next generation of scalable technology solutions to optimize the Olympic Games experience. With Deloitte’s experience in sports, data-driven marketing, cybersecurity, tax, and technologies such as AI, we will join the IOC and other partners to create a “one team” model that we believe can have a positive and lasting impact on the IOC, Organizing Committees, and the fan experience.”
