My Trainee Story: Olli Jalli

Olli Jalli studied law at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu and graduated in May 2024 with the Master of Laws degree. He is currently part of Deloitte's Global Business Tax unit, working specifically within the M&A team.

The leaders and my coach have been incredibly supportive of my professional development. They consistently provide feedback that helps me understand my strengths and areas for improvement. We also hold regular coaching meetings where we set goals, review progress and discuss the steps needed to achieve those goals.
What made you apply for the trainee position at Deloitte?

A significant influence was my sister, who previously worked for Deloitte. She consistently spoke highly of the company, highlighting the abundant learning opportunities and the supportive, friendly colleagues. For me, the most important aspect is a positive and encouraging work environment, which is usually fostered by great colleagues. These were key factors in my decision to apply for the trainee position.

What is your typical workday like?

Working in an M&A team involves a diverse range of daily activities. While there are consistent tasks, such as responding to emails, my role encompasses various responsibilities related to M&A. For instance, I prepare due diligence tax reports and structuring reports, among other tasks. Additionally, during the busy spring season, I am involved in preparing corporate tax returns.

How would you describe the working environment at Deloitte?

I cannot emphasise this enough: we truly have the best colleagues here at Deloitte, from trainee level all the way up to partner level. Our team is always willing to lend a hand whenever you need assistance. Moreover, the collaborative environment ensures that you’re continually learning something new every day, enriching your professional growth.

What has been the best thing about working at Deloitte?

The best thing is the continuous opportunity for learning and growth. Each day brings new challenges and diverse tasks that keep the work interesting and engaging.

In what ways has the flexibility in your work schedule contributed to your productivity and job satisfaction?

The flexibility has been a game changer for my productivity and job satisfaction. It allows me to manage my time more effectively, balancing work and my personal life. For instance, if I have a free slot during the day, I can fit in some sports or exercise, which keeps me energised and focused. This flexibility helps me deliver better results and enhances my overall happiness at work.
