Wilma Grandell completed her bachelor’s degree at Hanken School of Economics and is currently pursuing a master’s degree there, majoring in finance with a minor in accounting. She works at Deloitte in Audit and Assurance, specifically working in the Large and Complex team that handles Deloitte’s largest and most intricate clients, including listed entities, banks and investment management businesses.
I have worked on diverse audit projects for companies of various sizes and industries. My role included participating in client visits, conducting process interviews, performing inventory checks and document reviews, offering valuable experience and challenges. Additionally, my trainee period featured training sessions that enhanced my learning and development.
I applied for the trainee position at Deloitte because auditing is an excellent way to gain a comprehensive understanding of the financial markets. At Deloitte, you can discuss your interests with your coach, whether you’re keen on working with publicly listed companies or banks. After seeing the job ad, I called to inquire and got a very positive impression of the role and work environment, which confirmed my decision to apply to Deloitte.

From the interview stage, I was impressed by Deloitte's welcoming environment. In Helsinki, 11 trainees started in January in the Audit and Assurance business unit, a perfect number for effective collaboration. From Day 1, everything went smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised that even as a trainee, my wishes and opinions were heard and valued. Experienced colleagues – such as my buddy and coach – provided guidance, shared expertise and helped whenever needed. Deloitte’s low hierarchy fosters an approachable, collaborative and supportive environment.
Definitely the colleagues. While the work itself is enjoyable, having a great team makes it even better. Deloitte offers various hobby clubs you can join with colleagues or at which you can meet new people. My personal favourite has been Deloitte’s private Tribe sessions, occurring once a week. Another highlight was the trainee ‘sitz’ event in May for all Deloitte trainees in Helsinki, Turku and Tampere.
Deloitte’s culture is welcoming for new trainees due to the support from coaches, buddies and fellow trainees. My coach and buddy helped me feel welcome from the start. In audit work, where clients and assignments vary, teams also change often. Every team proactively reached out, introduced me, explained tasks and clarified who to ask if I needed help. Deloitte fosters a collaborative environment with approachable colleagues, emphasising teamwork and mutual support, ensuring new trainees feel integrated and supported from Day 1.
