My Trainee Story: Kwan Li
Kwan Li is currently enrolled in the master’s programme in Computer Communication and Information Systems (CCIS) at Aalto University. He is working towards completing his master's thesis, with a major in cybersecurity and cloud computing. Besides finalising his studies, he works in Deloitte’s cyber team.
My expertise in the field of cybersecurity has significantly improved since starting my traineeship. I have assumed greater responsibility in the projects I work on, which has motivated me to continuously develop my skills and broadened my understanding of complex security challenges.
What made you apply for the trainee position at Deloitte?
While studying at Aalto University, I gained a strong theoretical foundation in cybersecurity concepts but had limited opportunities to apply this knowledge in practical projects. Although I knew Deloitte and its audit services, I was unaware of their cybersecurity offerings. My interest in consultancy motivated me to apply for the position.
What kind of projects have you had the opportunity to work on? What has been your role in those projects?
At Deloitte, I have conducted technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities in clients’ services and systems, and to identify areas for improvement in their security posture. Additionally, I have helped clients enhance their cybersecurity measures by providing guidance based on industry best practices, ensuring robust protection and regulatory compliance.
Describe what your typical workday consists of?
My typical workday begins with a cup of coffee or tea, depending on whether I’m at home or in the office. I then spend most of my time on client engagements, assessing systems or preparing reports. When not working on active projects, I assist in creating client proposals and enhance my skills through courses and certifications.
What has been the best thing about working at Deloitte?
The best part of working at Deloitte is undoubtedly the amazing colleagues. They are not only enjoyable to work with during client engagements but are great company outside of work as well.
In what ways do our leaders encourage continuous learning and growth?
At Deloitte, I’ve learned a lot from our leaders. Each trainee is paired with a buddy and a coach for support on his or her journey. My buddy, a person that has been with Deloitte for a longer period, helped me to integrate into the cyber team from the start. My coach has guided my personal growth, monitored my performance and communicated feedback effectively. Observing the professional work etiquette of other leaders motivates me to continuously improve and strive for similar standards.

When did you start working at Deloitte? in August 2024. I applied for the trainee position during the second year of my master’s studies, after returning to Finland from my exchange programme in Singapore.
