Essi Huttu is an expert specialising in industrial manufacturing and supply chains, who enjoys the variety of work and the opportunity to continuously learn new things. She sees it as valuable that Deloitte has genuine understanding of the industrial sector, which creates trust and credibility towards the customer. The industrial sector is currently undergoing significant changes, and as a consultant, you get to be at the forefront of this change.
I see understanding industry dynamics and trends as very important. It gives a holistic view of the client's needs, pain points and goals, and it enables building solutions that genuinely serve the customer. Industry expertise increases credibility and trust.
I work at Deloitte as a business consultant in the industrial sector. I work as project manager and content expert, particularly in projects related to supply chain management and service business.
I’m a Master of Science in Technology, specialising in industrial engineering and management from Tampere University of Technology. My studies focused on project and service business management as well as production management, which includes the entire supply pipeline from raw material to production and delivery. After graduation, I worked on supply chain development in a Finnish manufacturing company and as a researcher in
industrial service business at the university. Before joining Deloitte, I worked in an industrial business cluster on strategic projects related to industrial digitalisation.
Deloitte's strong focus on industrial clients and the team's deep understanding of the industrial sector convinced me and led me to join Deloitte. Our industrial team has been built courageously, and we have sought strong domain knowledge and experience by hiring experts with long careers in industrial companies. Experts who understand the industry quickly grasp the client's challenges and can develop solutions that meet their needs.
"I see understanding industry dynamics and trends as very important. It gives a holistic view of the client's needs, pain points and goals, and it enables building solutions that genuinely serve the customer. Industry expertise increases credibility and trust."
At Deloitte, I have mainly worked on supply chain management, supply chain strategy, and operating models. In a typical project, we examine supply chain functions from various perspectives, involving processes, systems, people, organisational structures, and physical locations of operations.
Consulting work requires curiosity and interest in learning new things as well as the ability to operate in a changing environment. Our client projects typically last a few months and each new assignment is always a bit like a new job. The spice and sugar of this work is that you get to see and learn a lot, but at the same time, you need to tolerate some uncertainty. During my five years at Deloitte, I have learned a lot and deepened my expertise.
Internationality is also strongly visible in my work. Nearly all project teams at Deloitte and our client companies include international experts. We mainly work remotely and avoid unnecessary flights. However, for large projects, it's also essential to visit the physical locations where client companies have operations.
At Deloitte, there’s expertise for every subject and the people are super motivated. I enjoy the variety of work, where you get to do different projects for various types of clients and see and experience a lot. Currently, digitalisation and geopolitics strongly impact many industrial activities, as do the green transition and sustainable development.
"Many aspects of my work relate to renewal and the future – it feels meaningful to be at the forefront of change."
