Career highlights from Deloitte’s SAP practice: Lena Nyström

A Manager who built her SAP expertise from the ground up and excels at bridging business and IT

Lena is a manager at Deloitte, currently serving as Learning Lead and a PMO member on a major SAP S/4HANA project. She began her career with no prior SAP technical experience, starting as a functional consultant on a global SAP project after completing a master’s degree in industrial engineering and management.

Joining Deloitte two years ago, Lena sought to deepen her SAP expertise and work alongside highly skilled colleagues on complex, large-scale global projects. Her unique blend of functional knowledge, leadership experience and strong networking skills enables her to effectively bridge the gap between IT solutions and business needs across diverse teams.

My career didn’t begin with any extraordinary story. It’s often hard to know what you want to do at the start, especially if, like me, you studied a broad course that teaches you to be a bit good at everything. But my honest advice is to find an area that interests you, whether fully or just partly, focus on developing genuine skills in it and commit to improving every day.
From minus to plus – how consistency builds real skills

Lena’s story isn’t one of a flashy or unusual start. She studied a common engineering degree, a path many take, and she always knew she wanted to try consulting. What she didn’t expect was to end up working in IT, especially in SAP.

Born and raised in northern Sweden’s minus degree climate, Lena’s career has journeyed from icy landscapes to global SAP projects. She began at Accenture in Stockholm’s SAP technology department, quickly gaining hands-on experience in Sales and Distribution and Finance modules, which paved the way to project lead roles.

With a management background, Lena explored non-SAP projects at a Swedish consultancy Centigo but was always drawn back to SAP, the area where her expertise truly lies. This drive led her to join Deloitte’s SAP practice.

Thriving in global collaborations, Lena bridges offshore and onshore teams, a dynamic that has taken her on several visits to India’s warm, plus degree climate. At client sites, she’s focused on delivering real value by connecting technology with business, embracing client skepticism as an opportunity to showcase SAP’s transformative power.

Reflecting on her journey, Lena says, "My career didn’t begin with any extraordinary story. It’s often hard to know what you want to do at the start, especially if, like me, you studied a broad course that teaches you to be a bit good at everything. But my honest advice is to find an area that interests you, whether fully or just partly, focus on developing genuine skills in it and commit to improving every day."

Global collaboration, a true knowledge gainer

Currently, Lena is part of a major global SAP S/4HANA implementation spanning Europe and North America, supported by a cross-Nordic Deloitte team. She thrives in the dynamic environment of culturally diverse teams, valuing not only the exchange of SAP expertise but also the broader personal growth that comes from sharing perspectives that go beyond work. For Lena, strong collaboration with colleagues and clients is key; when she has people to share a laugh with at work, she can confidently embrace any project and enjoy the journey.

Within Deloitte’s SAP Sweden practice, Lena also serves as Marketing Lead, working closely with colleagues from Finland, Spain, India, Italy, Denmark and beyond to keep Deloitte at the forefront of industry developments. This global community inspires her to continuously grow the practice and deepen her impact.

Thriving on change, leading with confidence

Lena thrives in consulting’s fast-paced environment, moving between clients, projects and transformation challenges. Known for clear communication and strong coordination, she balances quality with momentum by recognising when solutions are ‘good enough.’ Inspired by her global SAP experience, Lena leads with positivity and purpose, supporting client teams and juniors while maintaining a work–life balance through smart prioritisation. Calm under pressure, she is a dependable guide.

As a coach to three coaches, Lena adopts Deloitte’s coaching style, asking questions that empower others to find their answers. She sees coaching as a continuous learning journey, developing her leadership through Deloitte-driven trainings and role models to build a flexible, authentic style that nurtures growth.

Every career is unique, shaped by personal experience, culture and professional growth. At Deloitte, our SAP professionals across the Nordics share a common purpose: driving transformation and impact for clients. In this series, we highlight four individual journeys. Together, they paint a broader picture of what it means to build a career in SAP by describing how they have built their expertise, overcome challenges and found new opportunities to grow as a business professional and connect both locally and across borders.
