Deloitte helps amplify environmental education

Deloitte’s commitment to making an impact that matters was brought to life as teams of Deloitte volunteers partnered with the Alberta Council for Environmental Education (ACEE). This ongoing collaboration, now in its second year, focused on raising awareness of environmental education and amplifying ACEE’s mission by leveraging Deloitte’s strengths in strategy, data visualization, and communications. By transforming survey results from Albertans and educators into a clear, engaging infographic, we helped highlight both the demand for environmental education and the gaps in current resources. As a result, ACEE’s data is now more accessible and actionable for educators and stakeholders across Alberta.

“Working with ACEE has been an important intersection in helping build a sustainable future, and in equipping the next generation to make an impact,” said Manager Justin Hii from Clients & Industries at Deloitte and project manager for the initiative.

Founded in 2005, ACEE works to empower young people as environmental stewards, collaborating with teachers, parents, and students to advocate for sustainability in Alberta’s school curriculum. As a small non-profit organization with only six staff members, ACEE faces challenges in both capacity and raising awareness about its impact. ACEE struggled to dedicate time to decide how to best use their survey data, which is why Deloitte stepped in to help.

“People in this digital age have very short attention spans. We want to deliver concise, clear messaging, but also use data to substantiate those results,” said Justin, who in addition to his role at Deloitte, sits on ACEE’s board of directors at a volunteer capacity.

Director of Programs Dixie Taylor at ACEE praised Deloitte’s volunteers for making their data more effective at resonating with their audience.

“The infographic has been instrumental in helping us communicate what educators in the province are saying about environmental education. Teachers don’t have time to read a full narrative survey report. The infographic is much easier for people to read and has received great feedback from our partners,” said Dixie.

By providing these infographics and corresponding key messages, Deloitte is helping ACEE increase its visibility and influence within Alberta’s education system. This collaboration exemplifies how skilled volunteering can drive systemic change—ensuring that environmental education remains a core topic for the next generation of Albertans.
