New BIC code as from 15 December 2025 for payments to government’s accounts

Following the awarding of a new public contract, BNP Paribas Fortis will take over the federal government's public accounts from bpost during the weekend of 13 and 14 December 2025 (Dutch/French).

New BIC code

The new BIC code as from 15 December 2025 onwards will be:  GEBABEBB. The use of the correct BIC code is mandatory for payments from outside Europe.

The account numbers of all government accounts (IBAN) will remain unchanged. These account numbers can be recognized by the digits 679, which always appear in the 5th, 6th and 7th positions.

Freeze period

On Friday 12 December, bpost will close the federal government accounts. The transfer of the accounts to BNP Paribas Fortis will take place during the weekend of 13 and 14 December 2025.

To avoid a transfer being refused, it is recommended to not make any (instant) payment to federal accounts on 12 December 2025.

Between Friday 12 December and Sunday 14 December 2025, no transactions relating to federal accounts (payment of pensions, payment of fines, deposits into federal accounts, etc.) can be carried it in a post office.

Postal orders and payments via international mandate

As from 1 December 2025, it will no longer be possible to make payments via postal orders and via international mandate.

Post assignments issued before the transfer remain valid for three months.
