AI is transforming the way small and medium enterprises (SMEs) work, delivering efficiency and productivity benefits for businesses that adopt new technologies. This report for Meta offers new insights into how AI-enabled digital platform tools can create significant growth opportunities for SMEs and boost economic development across six Asia Pacific markets - Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It draws on survey data from approximately 1,100 SMEs across the six markets.
The report finds that more than three quarters of businesses are currently using at least one AI-enabled digital platform tool. These digital platform tools are helping SMEs reach new customers, scale faster and expand into new markets. Notably, 80% of SMEs report that digital platform tools help reduce the cost of doing business, while 73% agree that these tools help to level the playing field between small and large businesses.
Business benefits are set to keep growing, with nine out of ten SMEs expecting AI tools in digital platforms to become important for their business within the next five years. This report also explores the long-term impact of AI on economic growth, estimating that continued AI adoption could potentially generate US$211 - US$512 billion in economic benefits across the six markets.
