The scale of our office creates more visibility, more opportunity, and more space to explore different paths. Many people who join us find their careers progressing sooner than expected, and in ways they didn’t expect.

Hear from two of our team members, Brahm and Yicheng, on how working in Canberra has shaped their paths, and opened doors in their careers.

Early access to complex work

Canberra is home to large, meaningful public-sector programs that give you the chance to step into responsibility early. For many people, this becomes a turning point in their development and means that they're constantly being challenged in their role, growing in skills and learning in the flow of work.

Brahm first joined Deloitte Canberra as a fresh Accounting graduate and is now a Director. His growth has come from the variety of work he's been able to tackle at Deloitte, taking on new challenges at every stage. Each project has pushed him to think differently and build a broader skill set, from technical work to leading teams and shaping strategy.

“At Deloitte, the learning never stops. As you progress, you take on new challenges and responsibilities that stretch you in fresh, exciting ways.”

Working in Canberra gives you access to this type of complexity from the start, helping you build your skills through real impact, and solving complex problems for our clients.

Working across diverse projects

One of the biggest advantages of being in Canberra is how easy it is to move across different types of work. The variety helps people find their strengths and test different paths.

Yicheng experienced this herself. She joined Deloitte in 2020 and began her career in transformation projects. Over time, conversations with people across the office helped her discover the AI and Machine Learning team. As she puts it, “I didn’t even know there was an AI and Machine Learning team until I started chatting to people.” Around two and a half years in, she made the move to better use her technical background, and she still collaborates with her former team.“

No two projects are ever the same,” she explained. “The variety of work has really pushed me to grow through my role, to learn on the go, and to develop new skills I might not have picked up otherwise.”

This blend of breadth and depth helps people shape careers that feel aligned and supported.

Strong mentorship and approachable leaders

A smaller office means leaders are involved and accessible. People know each other by name, and support feels easily accessible. Career conversations happen often, whether in structured check-ins or quick chats in the office.

Yicheng has found that most of her learning as happening in the flow of work through problem solving and collaboration.

"Having supportive, visible leaders has been invaluable, giving me the confidence to grow, stretch myself, and take on bigger challenges."

A community that champions talent

In Canberra, your strengths are visible. Leaders notice your growth, you get tapped for opportunities, and people genuinely want to see you succeed.

Brahm has seen his career expand every few years. He began by learning the technical craft, then shifted to managing teams, and now focuses on strategy, client leadership and growing the practice. He says the close-knit culture has made it easy to bring ideas forward and feel valued: “Deloitte is a place where creativity, strategy and purpose meet to drive real growth.”

This sense of connection helps people feel supported at every stage of their career.
