[Back to Technology & Transformation careers]

Five years ago, Deloitte's engineering practice in Australia was 40 people. Today it's more than 600, part of a global engineering community of over 2,000. That kind of growth doesn't happen by accident. It happens by bringing together specialist engineering firms and letting engineers, not consultants, lead the way.

Wherever you are in your engineering career, Deloitte’s Engineering practice offers structured career development supported by apprenticeship models and clear pathways, helping you progress from technical roles into senior leadership. If you'r seeking a career with variety and depth - here’s what life at Deloitte could look like for you.

A practice built by Engineers, for Engineers

Most Big 4 firms are built around advisory and consulting. Deloitte’s Engineering practice works differently. It grew by bringing specialist firms into the fold, which means the leadership team comes from deep technical backgrounds.

That shapes everything from how projects are scoped to how careers progress.

It also means there's a defined path from technical roles into senior leadership, including progression to Principal or Managing Director. That's not common across Big 4 firms, where technical specialists can often hit a ceiling well before the top of the org chart.

Real work, real industries

Engineers in our team work across a diverse range of areas such as financial services, government, healthcare, energy, defence and critical infrastructure.

The projects aren't theoretical, and they involve building platforms that improve access to health data, modernising core banking systems people use every day, and developing safety technology that protects lives on the road.

The practice has been recognised for this work too, including independent rankings that place it among the top providers of AI services in the country. But the recognition follows the work, not the other way around.

Where the day to day actually happens

Day to day, engineers work with modern tools like GitHub, Slack and Confluence, with the team constantly investing and exploring new tools and ways of working.

There's a genuine focus on building community as the practice scales, through regular meetups, events and knowledge sharing that spans not just Australia but the global engineering network.

Strong alliances with technology partners like AWS, Microsoft and Google mean engineers get direct exposure to leading tools and platforms, not just theoretical training on them.

Room to grow, and room to shape what's next

Learning here isn't a box to tick, and the leaders in Engineering have a strong focus on elevating and upskilling the team, to build out capability and career opportunities across the group. Engineers can build expertise through Deloitte's Skills Academies, alliance partner training and platforms like Udemy, while also contributing to innovation labs and studios that fund new ideas.

Because the practice is still growing, there's more room to move across advisory, implementation and operations, and more opportunity to shape what the practice becomes rather than stepping into something already fixed.

Who do we hire?

Our practice brings together a broad mix of technical skills, backgrounds and specialities. If you’re ready to apply your experience to meaningful work, we’d love to hear from people with expertise in any of the following areas:
