2025 Dealership Benchmarks

Ignite your pursuit of benchmark performance. To support dealers we are delighted to present our 2025 Dealership Benchmarks for the Australian and New Zealand car market.

In response to a challenging year marked by declining new car gross margins, increasing market saturation, and persistent interest rate pressures, we've developed a new framework to empower Australian and New Zealand dealers in building sustainable, long-term businesses.

Over 12 months, more than 2,000 Australian dealers and 180 New Zealand dealers contributed their data to the ProfitFocus system, providing a robust foundation for our benchmarks. These benchmarks are informed by the actual results of the top-performing 30% of dealers across key departments: new, used, parts, service, and finance and insurance (F&I), as well as overall top performers. This approach ensures our benchmarks remain realistic and attainable given current market conditions.

Our process involves a thorough analysis of raw data, considering industry trends and established best practices to derive meaningful benchmarks. We recognise the emergence of new business models as the automotive market evolves; however, given that most dealerships still operate under traditional wholesale frameworks, we focus exclusively on data relevant to these models.

The benchmarks are categorised into three market segments—Volume, Prestige, and Luxury—reflecting the predominant business models among dealers. While these categories align with the brands dealers carry, they are not intended to comment on brand positioning or prestige.

By aligning these benchmarks with real-world performance and industry shifts, we aim to provide actionable insights that help you navigate and thrive in today's dynamic dealership landscape.
