Siya Ndlovu

Risk Advisory - Cyber Intelligence Centre

Siya is currently an Analyst at the Cyber Intelligence Centre in Risk Advisory. He spoke to us about his studies, his current role, and his reasons for choosing Deloitte.

What did you study?

I studied BCom Statistics at the University of Pretoria. For someone who studied what I did, it is quite interesting to have ended up in Cyber Risk - it was a big career shift. Throughout my studies I was working as an IT Student Technician and that is where I gained more of an understanding of the Information Technology field; I fell in love with working in IT, and now I am a fully hands-on Analyst!

Why did you choose Deloitte?

It all started when I applied for the One Deloitte Vac School programme, which runs for a week in January and July respectively. While I was attending the January programme, I grew interested in Cyber Risk, and I applied for what was, at the time, the Cyber Factory Graduate Programme in the Risk Advisory business unit. That was the best decision ever! Deloitte is a great firm to work for. I have the best team - “Cyber people” are fun to work with and we enjoy what we do. We work hard and we play hard.

Describe a typical day in your role.

I start my day by reading my emails and addressing those that need my urgent response, and then I check my diary to see if there are meetings or any client engagement that I need to attend. Then I continue where I left off with my client’s work and fulfil my “Analyst” duties, which constitutes about 70% of my daily work.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Deloitte grads?

Deloitte is a firm with many opportunities, with plenty of room for growth and a phenomenal culture. Therefore, when there are opportunities available, always lift your hand up and take the initiative. Embrace opportunities for growth, enjoy the beautiful culture we have, and try to socialise and make new friends!
