Enabling agile thinking, efficient creation, and fast deployment

Africa must act now…

In a world that continues to be disrupted by technology across industries at an unprecedented pace, it is important for all industry leaders to not only keep up but also stay ahead of the technology game and its impact.

This is no different in Africa. Technology is more important for Africa than ever before, to be a catalyst for faster economic growth and to break down barriers to entries into newer market segments that were difficult to reach in the past.

It is with this in mind that Deloitte Africa releases local insights from our subject matter experts in response to trends captured in our global report, Tech Trends 2024. Context is essential, and with the continent’s various nuances our local thought leaders can you navigate and plan for the possible impact of each trend on industries important to Africa’s prosperity.

The six Deloitte Tech Trends captured in the 2024 report have been researched consistently over 15 years by our global team. The approach taken for each trend is to consider the context of today, tomorrow, and future opportunities.

What stands out for me from both the report, and the local insights provided by our experts:

  • For organisations to maximise the true potential of their technology and digital enablement teams, the culture of the organisation must adapt to allow for agile thinking, efficient creation, and fast deployment.

  • Africa does not have legacy infrastructure or other hindrances to contend with, technology advances and new emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to enable the continent to overcome real issues across critical sectors i.e. healthcare, education, mining, agriculture to name a few.

  • Although AI is the hottest trend everyone is speaking about, there is still a long way to go until effective and scalable deployment is possible – that will affect measurable change. Organisations must be thinking long-term while solving for immediate challenges. For example, how can cloud solutions be more effectively utilised.

Having been in the technology game for over 20 years, I know that it is always a fine balance to decipher the hype behind technology vs. the true possibilities that can be implemented across industries that we operate in. The Deloitte Tech Trends 2024 report provides clarity on what to focus on for the now and into the future. Insights from both the report and our localised articles balance the current reality with a view of opportunities of the future.

Mostly, as we talk through these technology trends it is a personal passion to want to see how we can use this to truly impact the societal challenges within Africa, making a true difference. This is only possible if organisations collaborate, and that there is deeper public-private partnerships and a clear path on what should be prioritised.
