This statement was one of the key messages of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) World Health Statistics 2022 report.

Unequal access to healthcare has been a serious concern for many years; however, the COVID-19 pandemic turned a harsh spotlight on these inequalities.

Africa ranks poorly for many healthcare indicators, reflecting major access challenges that are especially pronounced in rural and remote areas.
