Deloitte established a list of essential equipment required in Hospitals and conducted a ‘COVID-19 Readiness Survey’. The survey was distributed to 385 government hospitals to help identify and plan for requirements. The Deloitte team subsequently managed the procurement of good amounting to R1.2 bn in response to the COVID-19 requirements identified.

Deloitte identified and addressed potential shortfalls in the supply of medical grade oxygen to patients across South Africa. The team also conducted hospital technical audits and upgrades in order to prioritise hospital oxygen upgrades.

The Deloitte team assisted with the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines ahead of the 3-month registration processes with the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), the National Department of Health (NDOH), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and RTC.

Deloitte continues to support the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) Operationalisation Project by providing resourcing to operationalise the system. The EVDS is a centralised IT system to manage registration, scheduling, logistics and vaccinations, and has been tested on at least 280k vaccinated HCW’s at 170 sites. The NDOH required Deloitte’s expertise to operationalise and scale the system ahead of the vaccinations to be administered to the public, starting with the elderly in May 2021. Deloitte continues to support the project through RTC with a Vaccine Stock Visibility System, Enrolment and Scheduling, Data and information and on-site vaccine administration.
