Actuarial & Insurance Solutions Graduate Programme

WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME?

Deloitte Southern Africa

What is the programme?

The 4-day long AIS vacation work programme is facilitated twice a year (normally in January and July) at the Deloitte offices in Waterfall and the V&A Waterfront. This programme promises to give students insight into what our team does every day and where we think the insurance industry is going.

Students will be given the opportunity to meet a wide range of people from both our life and short-term insurance teams; interact with team members of various levels (from Junior Analysts to Directors) and join in on AIS team meetings and socials.

Throughout the week, students will gain hands-on working experience, exposure to the software that facilitates our work and an introduction to industry topics such as Solvency Assessment and Management (SAM) and IFRS 17. Students will also be able to test their own actuarial skills on either a life or non-life project.

We know first-hand that the road to actuarial qualification can be long and challenging. So, we will also give students insight into what it looks like once they enter the working world and how it compares to their time at university.

Be prepared for a week of learning, problem-solving, networking, and most of all: fun!

Reviews:

“It was a lovely experience to explore some aspects of the consulting side of the actuarial profession, and to make the link between the theory that we, as students, learn in university, and real problems. The programme was appropriately organized and well-designed. The individuals who were in charge of the Vac Work students were really kind and took exceptional care of us, while also introducing the practicality of the tasks that we would soon potentially do. Foosball was fun ;)”

“I found the vac work programme to be an extremely informative and beneficial week. Being exposed to some actuarial work as well as having sessions with different people within AIS allowed me to gain an insight in to the day-to-day working of the AIS team.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the vac work programme. I felt it extremely informative as it helped connect the dots of an actuary’s daily life. I also enjoyed the SCR market risk exercise as it was good exposure to work we can expect to do in future. I was also grateful for the AIS Team's warm welcome to us and feel that the team has a wonderful working environment.”

“It was a good learning experience and had the opportunity to meet some awesome people! “

“I had a really good experience taking part in the programme. Just to see the environment we might work in one day was very nice. What stood out to me most was how friendly and down to earth everyone was. I also enjoyed meeting and working with other students. I gained some confidence in the process and felt like the career is something worth working for. “
