Stabilising business as usual through a critical time for a mobility function


Company overview and objectives

The client had lost several key team members, including a key Mobility Adviser at short notice. This loss of personnel coincided with an ongoing and resource-intensive technology implementation, as well as a period of high-volumes of assignment initiations. Deloitte UK were asked to provide resources at short-notice to plug this gap, and stabilise the BAU during a critical time for the Mobility function.

Desired Outcome

With the loss of so many key members of staff, the mobility programme was in a critical state, with a large impending pipeline of assignment initiations and senior resources being required to dedicate time and effort to implementing a key technology system. The desire was for the business to stabilize as soon as possible and for a seamless and quality experience to be delivered to both assignees and the more wider business – such as they would expect from an internal colleague.

Global Workforce solution

A consultant from our team was quickly identified to work on-site for a period of one month; which subsequently extended to six months. The Deloitte consultant worked as fully-embedded team member, liaising with key internal stakeholders and external vendors.

The Deloitte consultant leveraged their mobility advisory experience and knowledge, going over and above the objectives of the secondment to improve BAU by enhancing current processes and embedding new ones. In addition, the resource developed intuitive and user-friendly tools and templates to increase assignment visibility and track key KPIs.


  • BAU stabilised with minimal disruption to assignees and the business.
  • Volume of assignment initiations maintained and internal KPIs all met.
  • Senior internal resources were able to concentrate on strategically significant technology implementation and communicating the rebranding of the Global Mobility function to the business and other stakeholders such as assignees and HR, without having to spend a significant proportion of their time on operational matters.
  • Using Deloitte UK resources was a cost-effective solution to replacing the loss of a key FTE.
