Led by Deloitte subject matter specialists, our immersive breakout sessions allow you to explore areas of particular relevance in smaller groups and share ideas and challenges with peers. Choose your sessions from our selection below when registering:
Family office archetypes and how they influence your operations
This session explores six family office archetypes and how your family office’s blend of archetypes can influence how you structure your family office, conduct your operations, and deploy your resources. After completing a short questionnaire to determine the primary archetype of your desired family office, you will work in groups with those of the same archetype to discuss the key attributes and priorities of operating within a family office of this design.
Preparing for a potential cyber-attack
During this session, participants will take part in a mock cyber-attack, and will experience the business impacts and consequences of a likely cyber incident scenario that family offices and the families they serve could find themselves in. Designed to build the right security mindset, you will work as a team to respond to a cyber breach in real-time in order to prevent company assets from being compromised.
Handling a tax enquiry for the family
Tax disputes are typically long-running, stressful affairs that carry both reputational and financial risk. And often the only way to build experience in handling them is to have lived through one. During this session, we’ll walk you through a mock enquiry to help you spot where and how to act ahead of any crisis with a tax authority. We will also share our insights into the investigations that are currently most affecting the wealthy and work together to look at how different choices can lead to very different outcomes.
Creating value through direct investments
The last decade has seen a significant increase in family offices direct investing in private companies, as well as co-investing alongside other families or private equity funds. During this session, Deloitte’s UK Corporate Finance team will provide tips on identifying, accessing and appraising investment opportunities, how to position your family office when competing in a crowded equity investment market, and how to add value throughout the investment lifecycle.
Sustainability and maximising opportunities from climate change
This session explores the global trends of ESG and sustainability, focussing on how family offices can manage climate-related risks effectively whilst also seeking to maximise the opportunities arising from climate change. Working in small groups, we will explore best practice, top tips and how to capture opportunities across the family office – from the operating business and investment portfolio to private assets and real estate/ buildings.
Navigating the family dynamics
Working in a family office is a role unlike any other. It requires individuals to operate almost as an extension of the family itself - privy to details about their wealth, their ambitions, their values and their personal lives. Led by Deloitte’s Family Business Dynamics & Governance Centre of Excellence, this session is designed to increase awareness of the personal and emotional side of family enterprises. Embedded in a systemic approach - shifting the mindset from family business to business families and from tax and estate planning to a holistic and integrated family planning, it aims to provide participants with active listening, mediation and facilitation techniques to better deal with the process of communication within families, personal situations, family dynamics, and underlying interests, emotions and frustrations. Participants will also receive a copy of the book Grammar of the Wealthy Family, Eleven, 2022
