Connecting homeless people with local employers
We support 1625 Independent People, a charity that helps young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Over the last year, we have helped them launch an innovative employment scheme called Young Ambition. The scheme links vulnerable young care leavers and homeless people with local employers. With the backing of £100,000 in funding and £50,000 in pro bono services, they have been able to find work opportunities for 30 people and hire two new staff members.
Local employers have quickly seen the benefits of Young Ambition, and more placements have started to roll in. Our involvement will continue for the next three years; we are now exploring ways of making the scheme self-funding. And we are helping 1625 Independent People to create a toolkit of everything they have learnt, to guide other organisations in setting up similar schemes.
Having spent years living and working in London, I have at last found a vibrant city where I can pursue my career and have a fantastic quality of life.
