What made you choose to come to Deloitte?
I grew up in Nigeria and then came to the UK to study. I sadly lost both my parents at a young age and struggled through university. I worked 40-hour weeks alongside my degree, and later worked for a telecommunications company followed by another consulting company. After several years there I decided I really wanted to work for Deloitte. Due to previous life experiences, I always do my best to look forward and be ambitious. A friend of mine told me it was a really great place to work and that I’d have the opportunity to work with smart people and big organisations. The first six months were challenging for me, due to various personal reasons which stemmed from my past family trauma. Over time my confidence grew and I’m now able to offer mentorship to others. I really enjoy my role in Technology & Transformation, helping to solve problems for clients.

What is exciting about working in Technology & Transformation?
Working in consultancy means I am able to work on a broad range of projects with colleagues from different parts of the business, which provides the rich variety I’m looking for in the workplace. It’s fantastic to be able to bring such a wealth of expertise across the firm to solve a client problem. While I enjoy collaborating with different experts and perspectives, I also feel valued bringing my voice and opinions to the table. Deloitte really does offer people ample opportunity to pursue their interests and careers. For example, if you have a particular interest in a specific job or area, the team will try and move you into different areas or roles when you vocalise your interests.
Why is it important to celebrate women in tech roles?
As a senior manager in Digital Banking, I am aware that women’s success stories have perhaps been celebrated less than men’s achievements in the world of tech. Traditionally it’s been seen as a male-dominated field which women were less likely to be encouraged to pursue but I’m delighted that’s changing now. It’s inspiring to see brilliant women thrive in all aspects of technology – from development to design to management – and it’s important, more now than ever, that we continue to encourage more women in the field.

How did you find the application process?
I was very lucky with the application process and felt comfortable to be myself. I spoke about my career goals but also what I want back from a firm. For me this meant inclusivity and feeling like I am part of the company, which was portrayed very well. I was able to have conversations and felt at ease rather than having the pressure of thinking I needed to impress. I found it easy to connect with the people I met and my goals aligned to the core values of Deloitte.
How does Deloitte support an inclusive environment?
There’s such a range of diversity networks to join, and there’s a lot of awareness around inclusivity. Everyone pushes each other to get involved and pursue what they believe it. It’s a great environment to be in because everyone is open to learning and ensuring they all do their bit to make everyone feel included.

What do you do?
I develop software for defence clients in the public sector, helping them to improve services and better protect the UK. One example of a project I’ve worked on was where I developed a tool that gives clients the ability to build their own apps and automate business processes. We take a collaborative approach to our work and there’s a real sense of community in our team in Manchester.
How did you get your job?
After school I went to university in Sheffield to study business before starting a career in recruitment, where I helped software developers into defence roles. It made me realise that was exactly what I wanted to do. I felt the jobs they were doing were solving real world problems, while helping to serve and protect the country. Before then, I’d had a stereotype of software developers in my head, and I never thought I’d be smart enough to do it. But speaking to them gave me the confidence to change track and do something I really loved. After my eureka moment, I left recruitment and took an MSc in computer science. When I graduated I worked for some other firms in software development, before joining Deloitte.

Why did you join Deloitte?
At school I loved science and was always curious about the way things worked. I also enjoyed spending time on my computer, figuring out how different websites worked. After studying biomedicine at university, I decided a career in medicine wasn’t for me. Instead, I started working in coding. I had no clue how computers worked when I joined, but I was learned all the processes on the job. Two and half years ago I applied to Deloitte. I was attracted to the firm because of the huge range of clients and the high quality of work they deliver.
What is your role?
I’m a software developer, working with defence clients. I help them to build applications, such as new websites, that that help them to make their business processes more efficient. For example, we might support them with a tool that allows people to share and comment on sensitive internal documents in a shared space. I also help to develop the ways our defence clients our using AI, to they can better protect the country. I really enjoy the constant problem solving that’s involved in my job, whether that’s one big challenge or lots of little ones.

Why did you join Deloitte?
I joined Deloitte in 2022, because I felt like they were championing women in tech. I’m now an end-to-end solutions architect, working with clients to analyse their requirements and solve problems. For example, we might be building the backend architecture that helps banks to simplify their technology journeys for customers. My job is to ensure that systems are joint up through the solutions we produce. I love the problem-solving aspect of my work and the fact that every day is completely different.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I really enjoy fitness, particularly enjoy running and weightlifting. I’m also part of a non-profit community in Manchester where we motivate women to keep fit through group activities and healthy eating initiatives. My family is very outdoorsy, so we spend time hiking together in the countryside when we can.
