In a country where everything is a priority, ultimately nothing gets off the ground. The era of campaign promises is over. The coalition agreement of D66, VVD and CDA promises to speed up housebuilding with large new development sites, fewer regulations and shorter objection procedures. That sounds decisive. But as long as no one decides where and when to build and which homes are needed, large-scale acceleration remains a promise on paper, as the recent report from the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) also underlines.
