Deloitte Africa and ISEP launch Green Skills for a Green Economy Course

An innovative training programme to build practical skills for jobs, growth and resilience in Africa’s green transition

New Collaboration for Impact

Africa’s path to a thriving green economy will be shaped by people who have the right skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow. Deloitte Africa is collaborating with the Institute of Environmental and Sustainability Professionals (ISEP) to develop and deliver a green skills training course, Green skills for a green economy: An introduction to environmental sustainability. This course is specifically designed to equip people, including underrepresented groups, with the skills and knowledge to succeed in a sustainability-driven future and access rewarding careers in the green economy.

What we are launching

Green skills for a green economy: An introduction to environmental sustainability

A four-hour facilitator led course that blends short videos, quizzes, case studies and group discussions. Participants finish the course with a practical understanding of environmental sustainability, how economies are changing, and what that means for jobs and skills. Graduates receive an ISEP certificate that signals foundational readiness for green roles.

Delivered by Deloitte facilitators

Sessions are led by trained Deloitte staff who use their volunteer hours to run interactive learning experiences with community partners and education institutions.

Available online and in-person

The format is flexible for staff and beneficiaries for Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs), tertiary institutions, employability programmes and community hubs.

“Green skills create options for people. They turn intent into action and open real pathways to work, enterprise and resilience in our communities. Through this partnership with ISEP,we are investing in practical learning that helps Africa’s underrepresented groups participate fully in the green economy, starting now.”

- Ashleigh Theophanides, Chief Strategy Officer, Deloitte Africa

“The green economy is one of the fastest growing parts of the global economy and provides crucial solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges. By investing in training and green skills, we can open up the opportunity for underrepresented groups in Africa to take advantage of green jobs and make a positive sustainable impact on communities and the environment.”

- Martin Baxter, Deputy CEO for The Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)

Why this matters for Africa now

  • The transition is already reshaping value chains and creating new roles. People need accessible, credible training that opens doors to quality green jobs.
  • The programme is designed for inclusion. It supports underrepresented learners and those outside formal employment so that everyone can participate in the emerging green economy.
  • It aligns with two Deloitte ambitions: WorldClass, which empowers people through skills, education and employment, and WorldClimate, which accelerates the move to a low carbon economy.

How it works in Africa

  1. Local delivery with regional relevance: Country teams’ partner with universities, TVETs, NPOs, youth hubs and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) networks to deliver the course in accessible formats and local languages where needed.
  2. Industry aligned learning: Content spotlights African case studies across energy, agriculture, waste and circularity, and climate adaptation. Participants map what the transition means for their study, career or business, then identify actions they can take now.
  3. Pathways after the course: Learners receive a Deloitte and ISEP certificate and guidance to continue with role specific upskilling.

Who should take part

  • Students and recent graduates seeking clarity on green career pathways
  • Educators and career advisers who want to embed sustainability basics in curricula
  • Jobseekers and workers reskilling for new opportunities
  • MSMEs and entrepreneurs looking to green their operations and unlock new markets

A human learning experience
