Andre Zerafa
Managing Partner, Ganado Advocates
André Zerafa, managing partner and co-head of Ganado Advocates’ investment services and funds practice, advises on licensing, structuring, and regulatory matters for asset managers, funds, and financial institutions. He specialises in alternative funds and sustainable finance, chairs the MFSAC Wealth/Asset Management Pillar, and serves on the IFSP council. A tutor and examiner at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Laws, André is also an ACAMS Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist.
Prof. Christopher Buttigieg
Chief Officer, Supervision Directorate, MFSA
Prof. Christopher Buttigieg is the Chief Officer – Supervision Directorate at the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), member of the MFSA’s Executive Committee and chairs both the MFSA’s Regulatory Committee and the AMLCFT Committee. With 25 years of experience in financial regulation and supervision, he leads the implementation of the supervisory and regulatory strategies strategy across all sectors under the MFSA’s remit. He also served as Interim CEO of the MFSA from October 2020 to September 2021.
Prof. Buttigieg has played a key role in managing various teams, implementing European Directives and Regulation and developing national regulatory frameworks. He is a member of the Boards of Supervisors for the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Banking Authority (EBA), currently chairing ESMA’s Proportionality and Coordination Committee. He also formed part of the EBA Task Force on Efficiency of the Regulatory and Supervisory Framework.
He holds multiple degrees, including a PhD in law from the University of Sussex with a doctoral thesis focusing on the governance of EU securities regulation and supervision. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Malta, and a visiting lecturer at the Academy of European Law in Germany, where he is also a member of the Board of Trustees. Prof. Buttigieg is an active researcher and has published various papers in reputable journals and blogs in financial regulation.
Domenic Azzopardi
Associate Client Director/Head of Fund Services, Alter Domus Malta
A qualified ACCA accountant with extensive experience in financial services, currently serving as Associate Client Director and Head of Fund Services at Alter Domus.
Since joining the firm in 2011, Domenic has taken on several key regulatory mandates, including Director mandates, Compliance Officer, and MLRO. Domenic also holds a Banking Certificate from the Institute of Financial Services, combining technical expertise with strong leadership in client management, compliance, and fund services.
With over a decade of experience, Domenic has developed a deep understanding of complex fund structures and regulatory frameworks, enabling him to provide strategic guidance to clients while ensuring the highest standards of governance. Domenic's role involves leading teams, fostering client relationships, and driving operational excellence across fund administration and compliance functions.
Mark Magro
Global Head of Sales Operations, Alter Domus
Mark joined Alter Domus in 2017 and leads the global team of Sales Operations that is based across 7 different Alter Domus offices and is part of the Commercial Leadership team. The Sales Operations team partners with Commercial teams through Deal Support, Market Intelligence, Sales Analytics and Sales Reporting. The team also administers the Alter Domus’ Commercial Tech Stack. In his experience within Alter Domus, Mark also worked a year in Chicago to setup the Sales Operations processes and team in the US. Recently, he has also setup the Inside Sales team in the US. Mark has over 15 years of experience in Sales and Business Development initiatives. Before joining Alter Domus, he worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry with Novartis covering various roles such as Medical Representative, Product Specialist and First Line Sales Manager. In this experience, Mark was responsible for the Commercial Strategy and launch of various products across the region. Mark's academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Malta and a master’s degree in business administration from the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Mark Caruana Scicluna
Senior Associate, Ganado Advocates
Mark Caruana Scicluna is a Senior Associate in Ganado Advocates’ Investment Services & Funds Team. He advises on structuring, licensing, and servicing of retail and alternative funds, as well as asset managers, custodians, and investment firms. Mark has become a leader in Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, guiding CASPs and token issuers through authorisation and compliance. He frequently speaks at international conferences and has lectured at the University of Malta, MFSA, and other institutions.
Ian Coppini
Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory Leader, Deloitte Malta
Ian currently leads the Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory business at Deloitte Malta, a role he has held since 1 October 2024. Prior to this, he was the Risk Advisory leader. Ian transitioned into the advisory business after 18 years in the firm’s Audit & Assurance business.
In his current role, Ian spearheads a team that provides professional services in Risk, Regulatory & Financial Crime, and Strategy & Transaction Advisory. He serves as the engagement director on a diverse range of projects, primarily focusing on regulatory advisory, financial crime advisory, internal audit, and enterprise risk management.
During his tenure in Audit & Assurance, Ian acted as the audit director for numerous public and private entities across various industries, with a particular focus on the Insurance and Asset Management sectors.
Additionally, Ian serves as the Consumer industry sector delegate and is Deloitte Malta’s Financial Crime offering leader. His extensive experience and leadership continue to drive the success and growth of the advisory business.
Alexander Morton
Lead Partner, Payments and Digital Assets, Deloitte UK
Alex is the lead Partner for Deloitte’s Payments and Digital Asset business across Audit and Assurance in the UK and chairs the Digital Asset Audit and Assurance working group at the ICAEW. He has extensive experience across the banking and capital markets sector, leading both audit and advisory engagements on large, established businesses and newer market entrants, including crypto-native businesses. He is also the Technology and Innovation lead for Financial Services Audit in the UK.
James Farrugia

James Farrugia is the Partner heading the Ganado Advocates’ financial services regulatory practice. He focuses on the asset management, investment services, funds and fintech sectors. James has also been actively involved in assisting a number of blockchain-based projects. James regularly contributes to international journals and has addressed a number of local and international conferences focusing on this sector.
Dr. Indranil Nath
Non-Executive Director, Member of Advisory Board for AI+Partners B.V.
Dr Indranil Nath is a Chartered Engineer, entrepreneurial leader, board member, and independent Non-Executive Director with global experience spanning insurance operations, technology, and governance. He has established visionary information systems strategies and delivered large-scale technical solutions, including enterprise-wide application development in both build and buy scenarios. His expertise extends to ethical technology: he has consulted on AI ethics and governance, developed guidelines for Responsible AI, and peer-reviewed the United Nations Action Plan for a Sustainable Planet in the Digital Age.
Dr Nath built his career through senior roles at DXC, IBM, AXA, and EY, before moving into advisory work for Private Equity firms, focusing on insurance software product development, acquisitions, and value creation. He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director and Advisory Board Member at AI+Partners B.V. In academia, he is an Associate Professor of Engineering at the Department of Engineering, City St George’s University of London and Advisor to the National Centre of Creativity enabled by AI (CebAI) at Bayes Business School and a Visiting Fellow in AI Capability Evaluations and AI Field Operations at Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for IT, a Freeman of the City of London, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, where he chairs the Financial Services Technology Panel. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, chairing its Japan Business Group.
An alumnus of the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, Dr Nath holds an MBA in Management and Information Systems and a PhD in Engineering Management. He was named one of the Top 100 Diverse Leaders in Tech by the Technology Inclusion Council in 2021.
James Debono
Senior Associate, Ganado Advocates
James Debono is a Senior Associate in Ganado Advocates’ banking and finance team, advising institutional and start-up clients on fintech regulation, including payment and e-money institutions, credit institutions, blockchain, and crowdfunding platforms. He also advises on financing transactions, company formation, governance, and general company law. Previously part of the corporate finance and investment services teams, James focused on restructurings and licensing of providers and funds. He is also a visiting lecturer and examiner at the University of Malta.
Sandro Psaila

Sandro is a Computer Science & AI graduate and has been a Certified Information Systems Auditor since 2007.
Sandro joined Deloitte Malta in 2016, with over 20 years of practical experience in IT audit, information security, and revenue assurance. At Deloitte, Sandro leads and manages IT Audit & Assurance engagements across various industry sectors, including remote gaming, financial services, aviation, hospitality, and retail. He is also responsible for IT assurance service offerings, such as Control Assurance, Third-party Assurance, and AI & Algorithm Assurance.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Sandro has published several papers on the auditing aspects of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence and distributed ledger technologies. He also lectures at the University of Malta on topics related to DLT IT Audit.
Sandro was appointed to the position of Audit & Assurance Director at Deloitte Malta, with effect from 1 June 2025.
Kurt Rapinett

Kurt Rapinett leads the Data & AI offering within Deloitte Malta’s Technology & Transformation business. With over a decade of experience in top-tier management consulting firms, he brings a diverse industry background spanning financial services, retail and logistics, payments, gaming, hospitality, and the public sector.
He oversees the delivery of technology-enabled advisory and transformation projects, with a focus on technology and data strategy, system integration and migration, advanced analytics, automation and AI, FP&A/EPM solutions, and cybersecurity.
Kurt holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. He is a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants’ Digital Committee and AI Working Group. Within Deloitte, he leads the Emerging Technology and Artificial Intelligence Strategic Growth Offering (SGO) in Malta, helping shape and drive Deloitte's innovation agenda in these areas.
