Stephan Thouet
Stephan Thouet is a Director within Deloitte Germany’s FSI Assurance practice, with over 23 years of international audit and regulatory advisory experience at internationally operating financial institutions. He is the Leader of Deloitte’s Banking Union Centre in Frankfurt (BUCF), where a multidisciplinary team of senior and experienced professionals provide regulatory-driven services to our international FSI clients including supervisors and regulators in Europe. Since the implementation of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), Stephan has been in charge of managing all Deloitte’s support in supervisory related projects in asset quality reviews, on-site inspections and internal model investigations with European supervisory authorities. Stephan has also delivered projects at Morgan Stanley Bank AG, VW Financial Services, Close Brothers Seydler Bank AG, Bayern LB, DZ Bank, and Finanzagentur der Bunderepublik Deutschland GmbH, among others.
Steven van Honacker
Steven is a Director within Deloitte Belgium’s Strategy, Risk and Transactions Advisory practice and has over 10 years of professional consultancy experience in the financial services industry. Steven is one of Deloitte’s lead coordinators on the Deloitte Centre of Excellence for Recovery and Resolution. He is also part of the Belgian delegation at the Deloitte Banking Union Centre in Frankfurt (BUCF). As a risk management expert, Steven provides support to several audit teams on valuation, market, credit and liquidity risk topics. He has previous experience with an AQR review and EBA stress test preparation assistance. Steven has previously worked on multiple valuation exercises for the SRB, as well as internal projects, admin contribution and ex ante contributions to the Single Resolution Fund
David Herrera
David serves as Director and Business Risk Leader within Deloitte Malta’s Strategy, Risk and Transactions Advisory practice and leads the firm’s regulatory and financial risk offerings. He is a member of Deloitte’s international steering committee of the Banking Union Centre in Frankfurt (BUCF) and is Deloitte Malta’s representative within the working group of Deloitte’s EMEA Centre for Regulatory Strategy. Since joining Deloitte in 2017, David has led several projects within FSI, predominantly advising banks and financial institutions on matters relating to regulatory strategy, prudential requirements, corporate governance and operational risk management. He was responsible for assisting Access Bank Group in securing the first banking license issued in Malta under the European Central Bank’s authorization regime.
Iduna van Engelen
Iduna is a key consultant and subject matter expert to Deloitte Malta’s Strategy, Risk and Transactions Advisory practice, with a primary focus on the financial services industry. She has worked on a range of projects spanning from governance transformation to regulatory readiness and reporting exercises, developing a passion for regulatory compliance facilitated by data collection and analysis. Iduna is involved in assisting financial institutions in comprehending and remediating the outcomes of the SREP process carried out by the national competent authority. She is FRM certified, a PRINCE2® practitioner and holds a GARP Certificate in Sustainability and Climate Risk.
Catherine Galea
Catherine Galea is the Head of Banking Supervision within the MFSA. She commenced her career with the Central Bank of Malta before joining the MFSA to pursue her career within Supervision. She has held various roles within MFSA, covering banking supervision, authorisation processes for banks, FIs and Trustees, as well as the establishment of the Supervisory Quality Assurance Function. Ms Galea actively participates and represents the MFSA in various international fora and has successfully spent three years of her career as a Supervisory Board member within the ECB SSM. Furthermore, she is a frequent lecturer at local educational institutions on various regulatory issues, including the Capital Requirements Regulation/Directive and Risk Management. Ms Galea holds an MSc degree in Finance from the University of Leicester (UK). She has also achieved various other certificates and awards in various topics including banking, trusts and internal auditing.
Giovanni Bartolotta
Giovanni Bartolotta is the Chief Risk Officer at APS Bank plc. He has a banking career spanning over 25 years, ten years of which were spent in London working for major global investment banks, including Kleinwort Benson, JP Morgan Chase & Co. and Bear Stearns International. Giovanni then moved to Malta where he spent fourteen years at FIMBank p.l.c., as Executive Vice President and Global Head of Risk. Mr. Bartolotta holds a B.A. in Economics from Bocconi S.D.A., University of Milan.
