The 19th German Fund Day will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2023, in our house.

Traditionally, we talk to our internal and external experts about current legal, regulatory and tax issues that are relevant to fund players in Luxembourg, but also in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

One of the main topics of this fund day will be the current regulations on sustainability, which Lisa Backes (Member of the Board at Hauck & Aufhäuser Fund Services S.A.) and Gianina Thalmann (ESG Strategic Sales Manager at FE fundinfo) together with our colleague Wiebke Merbeth, (Partner at Deloitte Deutschland Consulting and member of the Sustainable Finance Advisory Board of the German Federal Government) and our colleague Carsten Auel (Director of Sustainable Finance at Deloitte Germany Audit & Assurance) as part of a panel discussion.

Another key topic is the legal and tax challenges for investors in Luxembourg investment funds.

Andreas Meier

Deloitte - Luxembourg
Andreas joined Deloitte in 2012, and currently serves as Partner for the Audit & Assurance sector. He is Audit Leader Real Estate and German Business Leader of Deloitte in Luxembourg. Andreas has extensive experience in auditing regulated or unregulated Private Equity and Real Estate investment structures – with a focus in Real Estate and Infrastructure industry. He has further extensive experience in preparing assurance reports for specific transactions (contribution in kind, interim dividends, liquidation reports), the performance of specific procedures in relation to compliance certificates and compliance with real estate best practices (i.e. INREV best practices) and the performance of financial due diligences. He is the Audit Leader Real Estate and German Business Leader of Deloitte in Luxembourg. Andreas is also a Board member of LuxReal and co-chair of the ALFI real estate fund financial framework-working group Andreas is a qualified Luxembourg Réviseur d’entreprises agréé, German Wirtschaftsprüfer and Expert Comptables. He is fluent in German and English.

Frank Lichtenthäler

Deloitte - Luxembourg
Frank is a Deloitte Partner in the Strategy, Regulatory & Corporate Finance department with a proven track record of more than 16 years in the Financial Services Industry and Big4 in Luxembourg. His profound market knowledge and expertise in Luxembourg Banking and Investment Management Industry covers: Depositary banking, Wealth Management, Migrations, Restructuring, IT Transformation, Alternative Investments, Regulatory topics, and Project Management. Frank has recently coordinated a large-scale bank transformation project for a major German banking group in Luxembourg. In that respect, he mainly acted as Lead PMO during the evaluation and migration phase to a new core banking system for the Operations stream. Furthermore, he coordinated various internal and external stakeholders while a team of up to fifteen staff on the ground. Frank is a German native speaker and speaks English fluently. He is a German “Bankkaufmann” and holds certification “Operations Certificate Program by ICMA” as well as “Prince2 (Foundationer)”.

Christian Bednarczyk

Deloitte - Luxembourg
Christian joined Deloitte Luxembourg in 2013, and currently serves as Partner in Cross Border-Tax. Christian has extensive experience in international tax. His specific experience includes advising on structuring of international operations, foreign acquisitions & divestitures, treaty related taxation, portfolio structuring for Hedge/PEI Fund clients, setting up MLP structures & other cross-border planning. Christian’s clients are in various sectors incl. oil & gas, renewable energy, drilling & exploration, financial services, insurance & real estate. Christian is a member of AICPA. Since 2013 he is a lecturer at the University of Hamburg and is giving various trainings in the US and Luxembourg. He has been speaking on various conferences in the US and Europe e.g. ALFI Frankfurt and New York. He holds a Master in Taxation from University of Miami an a Bachelor in International Business Administration from University of Brighton. He is a CPA for Texas and Florida. German native speaker and fluent in English.

Harald Thul

Deloitte - Luxembourg
Harald joined Deloitte in 2017, and currently serves as Audit Partner for the Private equity and Real Estate sector. Harald has extensive experience in Audit – especially in Private equity and Real Estate industry. He has depth expertise in the audit of regulated and unregulated Private Equity and Real Estate structures reporting under IFRS Lux GAAP or US GAAP on standalone and consolidated basis. He heads the PERE Technical Audit Team and is co-chairman of the REIF Best Practice Fund Operations working group of the Luxembourgish Fund Association, ALFI. Harald holds a master degree in business administration ("Diplom-Kaufmann") at the University of Trier and is a qualified Luxembourg Réviseur d’Entreprises. He is fluent in German and English.
