Warmth – to Manish Desai of Deloitte India this is what defines working at Deloitte. “It feels just like home” says Manish, adding that this is very different to other large professional services firms.
And Manish is certainly in a position to know. Before joining Deloitte in 2009, he had spent 18 years in Tax, working at firm’s including PWC and Arthur Anderson. It’s at Deloitte however, where he has felt best able to flourish.
To succeed in Tax, according to Manish, you need the technical skills, a strong network as well as the ability to be creative and innovative. Deloitte’s culture encourages both training and development and, most importantly, a collaborative culture. This, he says, allows professionals to form strong relationships and to feel comfortable sharing ideas. While Deloitte may compete in the market place, the environment Deloitte people work in is far from competitive.
This collaboration is not limited to Deloitte offices but is global, and has allowed Manish to develop connections across different Deloitte offices, giving his clients a seamless experience. He has been able to build his profile across different geographies, speaking at conferences outside of India. This in turn has led to better relationships with his clients and outstanding service delivery.
