Former CMD and Director (HR), ONGC, India’s National Oil Company
Dr. Alka Mittal is former CMD and Director (HR) of ONGC, India’s National Oil Company. She was also the Chairperson of ONGC Group of Companies viz. ONGC Videsh, HPCL, MRPL, OPaL, OTPC, etc, having significant presence in refining, petrochemicals, power and renewables. She steered the business strategically and took it to greater heights.
Dr. Mittal has the distinction of being the first woman to head ONGC - one of India’s most valuable companies. She had also become the first ever woman Functional Director of ONGC in its history, when she assumed the charge of Director(HR) in 2018. She superannuated from the services of ONGC in August 2022 after an illustrious career spanning more than 37 years.
Dr. Mittal is a post graduate in Economics, MBA (HRM) and a Doctorate in Commerce and Business Studies in the specialized area of Corporate Governance. She is also a Non-Executive Director Diploma holder - Pearson SRF BTEC Level 7 Advanced Professional Diploma from FT, UK.
Dr. Mittal is an industry veteran having rich experience of driving major strategic & impactful human resource programs and policies. She is also a CSR specialist and has led hundreds of impactful CSR projects across the country towards building sustainable communities.
Dr Mittal is/has been on the Boards of various institutions and professional bodies, including IIM Trichy, RGIPT Amethi and Sivasagar , National HRD Network and Hydorcarbon Sector Skill council, was also CEO Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council . She is also a member of IIM-Ahmedabad's Global Community of Practice, an opt-in group of leaders and professionals.
A dedicated mentor to youngsters, Dr Mittal has the distinction of training more than 12000 young Graduate Trainees of ONGC since 2001 on the subject of ‘Corporate Governance.’ She is committed to coaching young professionals.
Dr. Mittal has been placed in the Fortune Global Top Ten Women CEOs list in 2023 and is recipient of prestigious awards like Inspiring CEO of India Award, HRWorld Thought Leaders 2022 by Economic Times, Silver Stevie Award in the Woman of the Year category at the International Business Awards 2021, Powerful Women’s Trophy by Fortune India on 3rd March 2023 and many other recognitions.
