Sunder Iyer is a Partner in the Assurance practice at Deloitte India with over 30 years of experience in audit, financial reporting and capital market advisory. He has assisted leading Indian companies in understanding and implementing various accounting frameworks, such as Indian GAAP/Ind AS/IFRS/US GAAP. He has worked across sectors, including infrastructure, FMCG, services, media, industrial manufacturing, banking and telecom. He has also helped companies comply with the financial accounting and reporting implications arising from M&A deals, thereby structuring financing arrangements, derivatives and PE arrangements.
Sunder is passionate about helping companies with IPO readiness, pre- and post-deal readiness, business reorganisation, such as merger/amalgamation or divestiture/spin-off, for their financial statements and internal controls readiness. He has worked on and is familiar with rules of Indian IPOs, follow-on offers (rights issues) and private placements in India, FCCBs listed in Luxembourg and Singapore and AIM listing on the London Stock Exchange. He has worked on potential ADRs on the US stock exchanges, including an IPO on DIFX in the UAE. He has worked with some of the largest Finance Global In-house Centres/Finance Shared Service Centres of global MNCs, set up in India. He has helped them with local statutory reporting, deal readiness, carve-out financial statements, internal controls and more. The clients he has serviced include some of the biggest names in infrastructure, FMCG, services, media, industrial manufacturing, banking, telecom and other industries.
He has helped companies with financial reporting automation. He has also helped them ensure faster closure of books of accounts, optimise the Chart of Accounts and collaborate with MDM teams as Subject Matter Experts on financial reporting while implementing S/4HANA and similar ERP upgrades.
Sunder holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and is an FCA, CWA and CIA. He has served the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in their Ind AS drafting, research publications and guidance notes, apart from being a member of some of ICAI’s committees. He has also actively contributed to the comment letter process on various accounting topics initiated both in India and internationally. He has been a speaker at many events organised by industry associations, such as the CII and ASSOCHAM.
