India hospital survey: FY27 outlook

Introduction

India’s hospital sector is experiencing steady growth, supported by an increasingly structured, insured and technology-driven health care landscape. Public health care programmes, such as the “Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY),” coupled with the increasing penetration of private health insurance, are improving affordability and access. As health care delivery grows more complex, hospitals are shifting from conventional care models to specialised services, such as organ transplants and robot-assisted procedures, while strengthening their digital infrastructure. However, this progress is accompanied by rising health care costs and ongoing workforce shortages. In H1 2026, Deloitte India surveyed CXOs from leading Indian hospitals with annual revenues above INR500 crore and over 500 beds to assess the sector’s outlook for FY27 and beyond. Our report highlights the following strategic priorities that Indian hospitals plan to adopt in FY27 and beyond.

The health care system is steadily evolving towards greater efficiency, resilience and patient-centricity, with growth driven by sharper case-mix optimisation, expanding speciality and tertiary care, and a more resilient workforce. Hospitals are also expected to take a more disciplined approach to capital allocation and technology investments, with greater emphasis on cybersecurity, digital integration and scalable operating models that support long-term sustainability.
