India is emerging as one of the most attractive destinations for global universities, driven by demographic scale, progressive reforms and a rapidly strengthening higher-education ecosystem. Deloitte India and Knight Frank India’s study, Global Universities Eye India Opportunity, highlights how India’s 155 million higher-education-age population, projected to reach 165 million by 2030, combined with domestic capacity gaps, is accelerating demand for high-quality international education within the country. With NEP 2020 and new regulatory frameworks from UGC and IFSCA enabling offshore campuses, joint ventures and transnational models, interest from global institutions is rising. Eighteen universities have already secured approvals, with three campuses operational. India’s scale, affordability and evolving policy landscape together position it as a compelling long-term destination for world-class global institutions.
