Solas Project is an organisation with a vision to see an Ireland where all children and young adults truly know their self worth and can take full advantage of their potential.
Here in Deloitte Ireland, we currently recruit volunteers for four of Solas Project's programmes: Solas Business, Solas Sport, Solas College and the Compass Programme.
Solas Business is a development programme that aims to teach children life skills while encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship. This is where we come in, we help Solas Project reach these goals through corporate mentoring, enabling students exposure to a business environment.
Solas Sport aims to develop character through the vehicle of sport. Through sport, we work with Solas Project to develop confidence in each student by teaching them new skills in a different way.
Solas College introduces 6th class children to the idea of attending third level education. This programme begins with an interactive session sparking a conversation about third level education and culminates with a trip to a university campus in Dublin which aims to give the students a taste of student life with a campus tour, workshops and lunch in the college cafateria.
The Solas Project Compass Programme aims to support young people in prison in the hope to direct them away from re-offending and towards a better life. Our people engage in the Compass Programme by travelling to Wheatfield and Mountjoy prisons to take part in friendly, albeit competitive, football games with the prisoners.
